dual brand wiring issues

I am trying to install a Dual brand cd player in my 2000 Chevy Cavalier. I got the wiring harness adapter & everything, but the radio doesn't have anything for the dimmer/illumination wires to connect to. I read in other threads that these wires weren't necessary, but I'm wondering with this radio model if they are - the unit is getting power, it will accept & eject a cd, but I get no display or sound output. All the wires on the harness that come from the radio are connected. I'm left with a blue, BLACK/ white, orange & ORANGE / white wire on the Scosche harness. If I'm mistaken in figuring out the problem, I'm definitely open to suggestions. I had the radio tested where I purchased it and it lit up & had sound on their test set up. The wires (excluding speaker wires) coming from the radio are: Blue - Remote turn on Black - Ground Red - Accessory Yellow - Memory Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated since taking it to a pro is cost prohibitive. One more question regarding the suggested connections. Should I try those connections in place of the black to black etc. that I have now, or am I connecting 3 wires? Thanks again.~I was told by two sweet crows, nobody feels what nobody knows~

Hey geisha..if im not mistaken i think chevy started the rap harness that year on cars...the trucks didnt start till 2003...so i think bass i right...check to see if your red wire is getting power. if you dont have a DMM tie the red and yellow wire together and see if the unit even turns on. if it does then  youll have to get into the fuse box for ignition.MECP Certified

The way it's wired now, it's getting power, there's just no display or sound output. The little red light on the unit itself blinks as it's supposed to when the faceplate isn't in place.~I was told by two sweet crows, nobody feels what nobody knows~

Sounds like a bad head unit to me, then... You've eliminated all of the other options. Short of replacing the unit with another (it'll be easy, now that you have all of the wires an harnesses connected) you could troubleshoot further, forever. Return the unit to where you bought it, and they should be able to just replace it for you.It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. yeah, sounds like no power on the red wire...just to clarify what jrod said, tie the red & yellow wires coming from the deck together, & hook them to the yellow wire from the car side (no connection to the red wire on the car side). you should then have to push the source button to turn the deck on & off. This will let you know if the red wire has power or not.used to be loud, used to be fast...now I am married LOL
