A while ago I was expanding the positve pin on my RCAs with a small flathead to make them fit in the amp a bit tighter. When I did, one side broke off. It still works, but I want to replace them. -I notice alt whine goes away when I wiggle them around in the amp (??), this is why i'm replacing them. BTW, I will open the amp up to check the RCA input jacks if when I replace the interconnect the noise is still there when wiggling around.

Anyways, i've got some RF cables but they are 20' long, I only need 6'. Should I use them (they'd be coiled up somewhere to hide the slack) or should I just replace them with some cheapo 6'ers?

Here they are; http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=5&series_id=36&family_id=47&item_id=62500&locale=en_US&p_status=discontinued

I know what you're gonna say (use cheapos), but i'd like to have the good ones for my front stage 'cause i've got 'em.

Will having them coiled up somewhere, to hide the slack, add noise or anything?

-Thanks, fellow SQ seekers.

The noise is going to still be there.   You have a bad solder joint on the shield connection inside the amp.  Unless it is only getting the noise with the damaged RCA plug.

I will open it up sometime this week as i'm on 'vacation' and will have plenty of time. Thanks.

Plus, I think my alt is going out, too. I've got a 95a max system plus an extra yellowtop pulling off of my factory 105a alt (Big3, BTW) so it was just a matter of time! -Good thing I uninstalled my cRapacitor! Just more money that needs (yep, a need , alt whine SUCKS!) to be spent. Yey! -sarcasm

I surely will try the shield connection thing first. -Precciate it!

Oh, in that case couldn't I ground out the RCA negatives to see if that is the problem? Cause I did (first instinct!) and the noise got worse.

Alright, i am an idiot, I took your advice (always great advice, BTWextra rca cable lenth or cheapo -- posted image.) and desoldered my RCA negatives from the amps board, then resoldered (they were tight in the first place, I just wanted to make sure) them in. The noise is still here. All power and ground as well as RCA and speaker connections are better than good.

I'm guessing my alternator is going out. WEEE! Great fun! -J/K. It's too bad I already sold my old cRapacitor -I was going to hook it up to see if it would suppress the noise. It did on TCSS's Ferrari, and it was suggested that its alternator was going out.

Is there anything I can do to see if it's my alternator? I really hate alt whine!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
