Hey guys, i just joined this site today and just wanted to say first off this is a really good site and keep up the good work. Now to my dilemmas. Im going to put a system in a 93 Explorer. I'm pretty set on using 4 10" subs, most likely Rockfords. They will be powered by the Rockford Power 1000bd amp, which is a class bd mono sub amp capable of 1000 watts at 2 ohms. So i'm looking at the  Punch He and Punch HE2 subs for my choice, which one is a single voice coil design and the other a dual design. So my question is which would you recommend and how would you wire them to get the 2 ohm load at the amp?? Now for more info on the subs, the HE's handle up to 200 watts versus the HE2's taking 400 watts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have other dilemmas in my head with this system but I figure the subs is enough to tackle right now!! Thanks guys.

You have a few different options but here's what I would recommend.  Get 4 of the HE2s with 4-ohm voice coils (RFP4210).  Wire each sub's voice coils in series, thus presenting an 8ohm load per speaker to the amplifier.  Now take these 4 subs and wire them to the amplifier in parallel, and the amp will see 2 ohms and you'll suck out all 1000 watts from your ampExpert advice for system using 4 10 subs -- posted image.. Here's what the wiring should look like (got this from RF's web site):

I recommend the HE2s over the HEs cuz not only are they better subs, but the DVC design gives you more flexibility with wiring and in your situation it'll allow you to get the maximum safe power out of your amp.  Good Luck!

hmm that's wierd guess the image uploading isn't working yet, or maybe I did it wrong, who knows....)  Anyways, just click this link and it'll give you the same diagram.  Once you get to the page it'll have two diagrams, and the one you want is the one on top.  Sorry for the confusion!

Where are you located cause i have a box loaded with 4 12" RF HE's for sale, I'm in the winston-salem, nc area and will let it go for cheaper than you can buy the brand new 4 10's. The subs are practicly brand new, i hardly got to use em cause i upgraded my system to 6 12" JL W3's,,,they are 8ohm subs so if you bridge them all down you'll get a 2 ohm load which would be perfect for that bd amp..they were loud as hell when i had em, and i only ran them with a rf 500s email me at LJBowling21@yahoo.com for more info latea

Hey again, first off, thanks for that info esmith, never even occurred to me to check out their website. Now if i could just make up my mind on what to do. So many ways to set it up, so many different items to choose from. kinda nerve racking!! Had considered Kicker subs to start with, then RF's. Thought about the 4 10's, then 4 12's, considered even 3 12's or maybe 2 good quality  12's. Alot of it has to do with how i want them set up. With the 10's i was looking at having a custom made box on each side of the back housing 2 each. That way i would not lose much of my storage space. With using 12's i feared having too much bass and drowning out the mids and high's. I want a system that is loud of course, but i also want it to be pretty equaled out. Things were so much easier 10 yrs ago!! lol Does anyone here have a system in an explorer?? Now to ljbowling....i dont need a box for the subs as i will have to have a everything customized for my install anyways, but im curious as to how much you would like for your 12's. You said you are going with 6 JL 12's?? You're insane man!! Yrs back i actually heard a guys system who had 6 JL 12's in it in the back seat of this old beat up car. When he turned it on i honestly had a hard time breathing in the car!! It was unreal the amount of pressure built up in there. Needless to say i viewed that as extreme overkill cause his mids and highs didnt stand a chance!! Anyways, get back with me sometime and thanks again for the help guys!! Tim
