I have a basic car stereo that I am going to install on my Honda Goldwing. The stereo is from a '92 Toyota Camry.

I have connected yellow & red & orange(dimmer) to power. I have connected black to ground. Then I connect a front speaker(grey), positive & negative but I get no sound at all.

I tried connecting both front & back right together to one speaker and got nothing. However when these two were connected, the left rear positive wire touched the positive right wires that I had conencted together and then there is sound. Not very good quality but sound does emerge. It seems to me that this should be real simple to hook up but something seems wrong.

Can anyone help me out??

I'm a little unclear on exactly what you've done.  It sounds like your speaker leads (from the speakers themselves) aren't correct, or what you're interpretng as the +/- outputs from the deck.  Can you check those?  Maybe try an outboard home speaker for reference?

The power & ground sound OK.  Don't worry about front vs. rear, just use one channel for now.  If one works, the others are probably fine.  And remember that you're working with a 13 yr old stereo...

Actually, when I couldn't get the speakers working on the bike, I brought it into the house and used a battery charger as my power source and a spare set of speakers to test on. That's why I am so puzzled, the speaker connections are so basic. I went and bought a new harness for the deck, so I know that the -/+ connections to the speakers are correct because i can see the -/+ indications on the speaker. The speakers I am using for testing were working fine just a short time ago.
