I"m looking at several Pioneer DEH Mp3 capable head units to mount on a motorcycle. (The main reason being their wired marine remote CDMR80D.) If I have to, I can probably put it horizontally in the tail cowl but if possible would like to put it up in the left side of the fairing. Was wondering if anyone here has experience mounting one of these head units vertically? (Face plate pointing to sky.)

Checked the install manual for one of the ones I'm looking at: "If installation angle exceeds 60° from horizontal, the unit might not give its optimum performance."

My specific concerns are how a vertical mount would impact it's ability to play a disc at all, impact on MP3 anti-skip and ability to vertically eject discs.

Look at the Blaupunkt line......back in the day you could mount certain models damn near upsidedown.

I just did a pioneer dehp3700mp today in an 86 Citroen CX(neat car by the way, factory hydraulics, ground clearance was adjustable from about 4-10"). The radio is vertically mounted in the center console, the radio performed fine in a few road tests, it was a bit more prone to skipping than if it were mounted horizontally, but everything worked fine, customer was pretty understanding about the skipping. It might be a little worse on a bike though.

Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while; you could miss it.
