Hi.

I installed a Valet 562T remote starter in a 2001 Ford Windstar SE Sport. I used the XK01 module (with the FODL firmware) to control the door locks and a XK04 (PKFORD firmware) to bypass the factory immobilizer.

I'm having a weird intermittent problem when I try to remote start the engine. Every time I activate the remote starter, the engine cranks and starts. However, sometimes (usually when the engine is cold, but not always), the starter will shut off the engine and repeat it 2 more times eventually giving up. This is different than the usual cold start problem I saw on the forums because the engine starts every time. It's just that the remote starter doesn't seem to detect that the engine is running and shuts it off.

During a normal remote start, I will press the yellow * button on the remote twice and the parking lights will blink to confirm. The RS will then crank the engine and the parking lights will come on, indicating it's running. When this weird issue shows up, I will get the confirmation blink, the RS will crank and start the engine, but the parking lights will not come on.

It seems to me that this is related to the tach wire. The car has a triple coil pack and the factory schematics and wiring diagrams from different sites show 3 wires that can be used for the tach signal: blue/lt. green, pink/white, and RED / blue. I tried the blue/lt. green wire (using low and high tach thresholds on the RS), telling the RS to learn the tach signal every time. Right now, I'm using the pink/white wire with the same problem (low threshold makes the RS shut down with a overrev diag code, high threshold has the intermittent problem).

Any suggestions or ideas? Has anyone ever seen something like this before?

Starting on the 01 model year I stopped using a tach connection for tach referencing in Fords. I did a couple that would start inconsistently, DEI posted a tech note saying something about the Ford's and their ignition coils but I do not recall the specifics. They recommeded using an injector wire, it worked flaylessly so from then on I use an odd colored injector wire on all Fords. Try moving your tach to an injector to see if that helps.
Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

I moved the tach wire to one of the injectors and it works. Thanks!

Happy New Year :)
