I have a few vehicles within the next few to put remote starters in. A couple of them want the rear defrost hooked up. Just wondering the best way to hook them up. I am using valet 561r remote start. How do I figure out which wire to use on the defrost switch and does this need any relay, resistor, or need to be diode isolated at all? Thanks Corey

got any specific cars? usually testing @ the switch for a latched or pulse is the only way. a relay is best just because the defrost can draw alot of current (to be on the safe side)

also, i have never done any cars that used resistors to turn on the defrost. I have seen some that use resistors for blower motor speed, locks ignitin wires etc. no defrost yet.

I'm going to be doing a 2005 chrysler 300,2007 Hyundai Sante Fe, 2006 GMC Sierra, and a 04 Trailblazer. And they all want the defrost hooked up. How will I know the difference between latched and pulsed? And how would the relay be wired?

If you use a CAN sl2 bypass module- at least for the GM's- it will do the rear window defrost, the heated seats, the heated mirrors all automatically when the engine temp is below freezing--- a much easier install- most people love the heated seats being on too....it also does the doorlocks and the theft bypass--- it is God's gift to the installer..........

brcidd is correct. Can SL2 units will do all as he mentioned. and the install time is fairly quick because everything is through the DATA.

latched means the switch is closed until commanded open-- as in holding the button down until I let it off---- or a timer shuts it off-    pulsed means the switch is closed and immediately opened-  like a door lock switch would do.  Defroster switches would "latch" on to keep current flowing to the defrost wires until it times out or is commanded off....

thanks alot this will be helpful for future installs for sure. the thing is i already have the bypass modules for the vehicles so i was hoping to be able to usethe output from the remote starter that i am using(561r). For the 2005  chrysler 300 i am using bypass xk532, 06 sierra and 04 trailblazer-xk01,07 santa fe-556uw. so i was wondering if anyone knew what the defrost wire color/locations are for these vehicles?
