2005 Ford F-350 6.0L Diesel, RS Runs 5 Seconds, then Restarts

I have a problem with a 2005 Ford F350 SD with a 6.0L Diesel in it. I hit the remote starter and it starts fine but only runs for about 5 sec then dies.it does this three times in a row then quits. It has a CA500 in it and is running tachless, it does not have PATS keys. Has anyony ever had this problem?

well its best to use a tach to prevent under or overcrank. most units will shut down because it didnt see a tach which means the car isnt running . Voltage sense works but during the winter the voltage dropss too much during crank and it will die out in matter of seconds. also, check if you have your bypass wired properly. Notice the red security light on your dash. if it flashes then its not bypassed properly

Use the alternator sense for F350 trucks. I've used alternator sense on most of the F250/F350 that I've installed. The GREEN / WHITE wire under the dash doesn't seem to work very well on Compustar units.Jeff

The tach wire's right there behind the fuse box, so it's worth hooking up and trying. Like Velocity Motors says, that tach wire works fine with some brands of remote starter, and terrible with others. I'm trying to remember the CA500 from Code Alarm.........how many buttons are on the remote? Does it have a horn output? Does it have a trunk output? The plug that has the ignition wires, and the plug that has the brake and parking lights....are they next to each other, or on opposite sides of the brain? The reason I ask is because I install Audiovox, and that Code piece you have is just a rebadged Audiovox anyway.....but I forget which one. I know from experience, for whatever reason, with the Audiovox product, you need to use the full-featured one that has trunk and horn and everything............the one that's plain RS/keyless won't accept the tach signal very well. But anyway, hook it up and try it, and see what it does. You could also try leaving it tachless like it is, but go into programming and change the "voltage level" setting.......my experience is that it won't work, but it's worth a try.

I can't remember but there are only two wires on the alternator plug. One has constant 12 volts and the other one will test 1-6 volts when the ignition is ON and 12-14 volts when running.Jeff
