Title says it all...
How does DEI's 689 module do it's job? I've always thought of rigging up some form of switch inside the shift boot that would detect if the shift lever was in the 1st or reverse gear positions.
How does DEI do it?

the 689m monitors the parking brake, door switch/pin and the brake itself. You must enter a reservation mode in the order of this

1) hold brake, place car in neutral and pull ebrake

2) release brake, press remote start on car and remove key (dash lights flash)
3) car still runs without key, open door, close door, and the car turns off. now you can remote start.

**reservation mode is canceled anytime the brake is pressed, handbrake relaesed, or door opened**

its actaully a very safe and thoughtful method because you obviously cant leave your car while its still running and in gear.
