what unit are you planning to install? i assume if you need the 689m, you are trying to fit a automatic remote start into a manual tranny civic. i dont have the manual, but heres how the 689m works. like compustar units, its called a RESERVATION mode. it allows the car to start, but at the same time ensures the car is not in gear. The 689m watches doorpins, ebrake wire, and brake pedal.its a simple 6 wire hookup. constant 12v, ground, ebrake wire, brake, doorpin, ground output to remote start. when you are driving and come to a stop, steps must be done to allow remote start.

1) Hold brake, Pull E-brake

2) place car in N (neutral)
3) remove foot from Brake pedal
4) press start, lights flash, remove key.
5) open door, close door then you can remote start.

the reservation sends a GROUND out to the Ebrake connection required for automatic units. Yes, you can simply ground it, but NOT on a manual tranny. its only done for automatic cars. now, the reservation mode is always canceled upon opening of a door (prevents some1 hitting the shifter into gear), Ebrake (if brake is dropped, car is unable to start) and brake pedal. if brake pedal is pushed, reservation mode must be entered again. you also need to bypass the negative CLUTCH with a relay or Second Start (-) output to the clutch wire. hope that helps.
