1994 buick park avenue.alarm

I am trying to install an add-on alarm system to my 1994 buick park ave,but i have a few problems i need addressed.The car has a factory alarm which i dont want to do away with.The add-on alarm that i purchased works with the factory remotes it justs has more options,shock sensor ,horn honk ,parking light flash,and door open monitoring.I could really use some assistance when it comes to where to hook up the lock/unlock wires coming from the alarm module to so that the factory remote will arm and disarm the add-on system,also i want to make sure that i am hooking the wire for the parking lights up right,i am hooking the parking light wire from the alarm module to the brown wire coming from my cars lamp control module.i am also using my cars horn instaed of a siren because the park ave has a really loud 4-horn hornsystem.            thanks for any useful info,        davesparkave.

You didn't say what the add on alarm unit is. Most units that upgrade a factory keyless entry to an alarm use the door lock motor wires as the arm/disarm inputs. In GM's the Tan wires are for unlock and the Gray are the unlock. These are the door lock motor wires and can be found between the front door and body. I would suggest using a siren for the add on alarm. The factory alarm will arm with the factory keyless and if it is set off from a door opening, it will already flash the lights and honk the horn. The add on alarm should use a siren for this reason.sparky

thanks sparky that makes complete sense i had the wires hooked up to the drivers lock switch and it wasn't arming or disarming the add-on system.Another thing i wanted to know was what to hook up the door open trigger to,i was going to hook it up to my interior lights but they stay on for 25 seconds and also go off when i hit arm or disarm on my factory remote its a courtesy light thing i guess.I mainly wanted the add-on which is an icdynamics fa-1(made by valiant)for the shock sensor and the convienence of not having two remotes,but i also want the alarm to sound if someone presses the door handle button in an attempt to see if the doors are open..thanks again for the info davesparkave...

If you want to hook it up to monitor the doors, tap into the door pin wires. I think all doors were common and the wire you need is Tan. Use a meter to check. You can also just let the factory alarm cover the doors and the add on alarm to take care of the shock sensor.sparky

are you sure that i shouldnt be hooking up the arm disarm wires to the remote control module instead?
