Excuse me for being new to this. I moved into the middle of the city and need to get an alarm so that I can put the soft top on my 99 Jeep Wrangler. I am worried about someone cutting my windows and stealing my stereo. I was looking at the Viper 5002 which I found for just under $200 shipped.
Does this include everything that I need for the install, besides wire strippers and tools? What about relay's and proximity sensors? Anyone with knowledge about this viper unit or the Python 990 please chim in.
I am also open to suggestions for other alarms but definitely want a two way pager model. Also, when installing the brain is it necessary to cut the starter cable? And is the remote start hard to set up/install with my 5 speed manual? Thanks Alot!

Does anyone know if the relay's come with the alarm? How about if I just dont wire the auto starter will the alarm still work?

Yes, you can connect an alarm/starter combo as an alarm only.
The rules of this website don't allow us to help you install an automatic-transmission remote starter on a manual-transmission vehicle.
There are two-way alarm/start combos that are made for manual transmissions. Ultra and Compustar are two examples. DEI makes a piece (689M) that will allow you to use any brand of automatic-transmission remote starter safely.
Also, the new Viper Responder LE can be used on manual transmissions, but it just came out, and it'll probably be expensive, and difficult to buy uninstalled.
As far as your other questions:
--The starter kill feature is simply to prevent a thief from starting the engine and driving the car away.
If you are more concerned about the contents than the actual vehicle, you don't have to hook up starter kill if you don't want to.
--Generally, relays aren't included with the product, except for the (non-easily-dissasemblable) relay pack for the remote starter.
You can pick up relays at Radio Shack or any auto parts store, although they're costly to buy that way.
If you're on a tight budget, you can pull relays out of car fuseboxes at the junkyard, and female crimp-connector terminals to attach the wires.
--Generally, they'll include a shock sensor, but proximity sensors are optional.
I've found that on Wranglers, in front of the shifter, there's a little storage tray that pops right out. Installers often place the proximity sensor there, for easy access and readjustment.
(These sensors are tricky, and you'll probably have to adjust it several times to get it right.)
--As far as what else you need for the installation, it depends on how you plan to connect your wires.
The product might include a ring-terminal to screw the ground wire to the car's body, but that's generally about it.
You're going to need something to connect wires.
If you want to solder: Soldering gun/iron, solder, electrical tape, and maybe some shrink tubing if you like that.
If you plan to crimp: Crimping tool, and crimp connectors. Butt connectors of various sizes, female spade connectors (for relays), etcetera.

Where can I find a compustar? Do they have a proximity sensor that I can easily add to it? I was looking at their two way system for manual remote start.

Compustar is difficult to buy uninstalled, but one might pop up on eBay once in a while.
You can add pretty much any brand of proximity sensor to any brand of alarm.
DEI's 508D is popular, but other companies have cheaper ones as well.
I have very little experience with proximity sensors, but maybe someone else here will have more information. I do know that they're tricky to adjust and tend to false sometimes, so it might be better to avoid buying the cheapest one.
