2004 Chevrolet Aveo Alarm Problem

Our 2004 Chevy Aveo hatchback is having problems with the car alarm going off with no obvious provocation.

We took it to a dealer;  they waited for it to go off and it wouldn't.  Of course.

I'm tired of waiting and I don't want to buy some other alarm system for the car.  I saw the post by syxx with the wiring diagram and it looks like it is possible to disable the alarm completely.  I've asked the dealer to review their wiring diagrams and call the manufacturer (!) to make sure it is possible to do this.

Questions for the forum:

1) Is it possible to merely disable the car alarm without affecting anything else adversely?

2) If yes, how?  I'm getting the impression their electronic technician is not as well versed as he could be on the Aveo wiring.  He may need a clue or two.

Is this factory security giving you the pain? I don't beleive it is. Does it honk the horn, OR trigger a siren?

When doing a remote start in this car there IS an alarm bypass. In the drivers kick find a bright green plug

Next to a bright yellow plug. In this green plug is a pink wire, this wire is broken with a relay during remote starting.

What I would do is ask one of your local car stereo joints if this is factory security.

I believe it is just the basic OEM security, though I haven't actually heard it.  No flashing lights, just sound.  The neighbors left a note on the vehicle saying it had gone off 10 times over the night and my housemate observed it going off with no provocation while it was just sitting in the driveway.

I'll note right now - I'm not a car tech!  Computers and I get along OK, so I'm sure if I had the tools, the time, and a reference manual, I could figure it out ... it'd just take me longer than a pro or a hobbyist.

And the dealer called - someone finally had the bright idea to disconnect the speaker on the alarm.  This was after I called them, suggested they check the above wiring (if I can find info like this, why can't they???), and maybe call the manufacturer (who really ought to know the answer, don't you think?).

If that takes care of the alarm going off with noise, I'll be very happy.  We've been without the car for a week.
