OK, I lost my remote for my DEI VIPER 5900...  I know it should be in the house somewhere, as I certainly used the keys to drive home.  I don't know where my son put it...  What I can't figure out is how to arm the system on the car without the remote.  I would set up the system to passively arm, but you need a remote to program the system...  Any ideas out there???  PLEASE save me the cost of a new key/remote.  If I dropped the keys outside and someone picked them up, I'm screwed.

You answered your own questions.

Even if you were to program for auto-arm, it would set off the alarm every time you enter.

Suppose you are OK with that, a Viper dealer can use the Bitwriter to program it to passive arming. After that, disconnect the antenna so if someone found the remote, they won't be able to disarm your vehicle.

Prepare your future. It wasn't the lack of stones that killed the stone age.

actually, the idea was that if I find the remote, I can shut off the auto-arming feature myself. If I don't find the remote, I will purchase a new one on ebay and use it to erase the previous learned remote so no one can steal my car, then run to the dealer and have them reprogram my car to not accept the stolen key in the ignition. They may still be able to open the car door, but they will set off the alarm when they do it... I'll just keep the car in the garage until I move in July.
