passlock bypass

Ok, I'm just throwing this out there as a hypothetical. I have X vehicle that uses a data bypass for the remote starter. Assuming I am having problems with the keycylinder, whereas the vehicle starts with the remote start, but occasionally will not start with the key and cause a security light to come on. What I want to know is if there is any negative effects (other than losing passlock) to using a relay on my ignition line to switch polarity to give me a - lead to connect the status input wire from the bypass to so that the bypass enables every time the car starts. any thoughts? Would it work? Also, is it possible to get newer style GM keys, 2004 up cut just out of metal, no chip?

Passlock keys do not have a chip in them. Passkey 3 keys do have a chip in them. I have not heard of vehicles with PK3 keys having ignition cylinder problems, it is a widely know issue with Passlock 2 though. Your idea would work, if done correctly. The data bypass modules don't interrupt the Passlock wires. If the key cylinder is trying to send a signal to the cars computer, and the bypass module is also sending a signal you may have problems. You would have to interrupt the Passlock wires and have the bypass module perform the job 100% of the time.

Well the story is I have an 06 colorado that every now and again starting with the key fails, but starting with the rmote starter does not.

I've "fixed" several security light issues on vehicles that do not even have a remote starter on them- by using a simple $7 bypass module- that I have dialed in the appropriate resistance that keeps that pesky security light off forever.....Brcidd - Engineer That Does Remote Starter Installs on the side.
