Hello everyone.

Last year I install the Valet 561R remote starter into my future wifes 2000 Ford Taurus.  While Everything is working fine.  One thing that drives me nuts is the fact that there is a single common button for locking and unlocking the doors.  So if your inside the house and are not sure your locked up the car.  Its inpossible to know when you are pushing the button if you are infact locking or unlocking the doors.

I'm not to familar with remote starters, so I'm not sure if this is even possible.  Can you purchase a key fob that has a seperate lock and unlock buttons and program it to work with my currently installed Valet 561r?   Is there any other options?

Thanks,

I think that I'm just going to buy a 4 button < color=#0000cc>474T remote that has the seperate lock and unlock buttons, to replace the 3 button stock one.

Will the seperate lock and unlock buttons function properly with the 561r?

*Shrugs* the parking lights doesnt flash when you lock and unlock? They should have a different count for lock and unlock. Lock 1 flash Unlock 2 flash. You can also have an installer hook up HORN HONK so when you lock it flashes once AND honks the amount of times it flashes. WOrd

Unfortunately you won't be able to purchase the 4-button Valet remote to work with your system.  The codes are different.  We have the same problem with the Avital 4100 remote start that has a three button remote, one button for lock and unlock, one for start, and one for auxillary.  They do make a system from Valet or any other DEI product (e.g. Clifford, Avital, Viper, Python, etc. etc.) that does have two seperate buttons for lock and unlock.  Possible models:

Valet 712T

Viper 211HT

Avital 2000

Yeah, the parking lights do flash differently when locking or unlocking.  The car has to be visible to note this.  Not a bad idea about the Horn.  I would be helpful.

I visited the DEI site for replacement remotes.  http://www.directedstore.com/interface.asp?page=search&step=begin

For the Valet 561R it lists both the 3, & 4 button remote as a compatible replacement.  So are you saying that the extra button on the 4button remote will not function?

Does your model remote starter have a panic feature on it?  What about an "aux" button on it?  If it does i would try to push that (aux) button first then the lock/unlock button right after.  I know some basic models have it so you have to push both buttons to get the horn to sound.  Of course it has to be hooked up for it to work.  Give it a shot!

...half of the truth can be worse than a lie. <----Roger Russell said that..

that's correct.  You can technically get the 4 button remote, but it still works like the three button.  In some cases, I've had to replace the 3 button remotes with 4 button ones, and they still work like the three button.  retarded.

Thanks for the info megaman.  I was hoping that this wasn't the case, but atleast I did not go out and buy a 4 button fob and learn this hard way.
