hiya

i have jsut fitted a cobra alarm system to my 1998 honda civic vti-s 1.8 (uk model/rover 400 style) and i can't figure out how to connect my 2 negative trigger wires from my alarm.

i have 3 wires in my door panel that go to the lock 1 of them is an earth the other 2 independantly become a permanant negative when i lock/ unlock the door with the key.

i already have a factory keyfob(no alarm) that locks the doors with the push of a button from which i have found a module behind the centre console with a single wire that pulses on lock and unlock.

could i hook the 2 alarm wires to the single locking wire so i can lock the doors with my alarm.

any help would be appreciated as i can't seem to find much information on this specific vehicle.

regards

Usually the door lock  module is in the drivers door on the jdm models we install here.Once it has a key fob .

Usually you can pick up a negative lock and unlock pulse there.Just pull of the door panel you should have 5 wires going to the drivers door lock? if not only 3 wires then you need to install an acuator in the drivers door .

Is it a 2door or 4door?

UK Rovers and Honda Civics of that model use a 5 wire or what I call a motor interrupt. Sorry Ringo, you got it wrong for once, do the following:- use your Cobra install manual and follow the diagramme that shows adding an actuator. Lock control is in the console below heater. White /red is motor lock output and white / YELLOW is unlock. These may also be picked up in the driver's kick well before they divide up to the different doors but be careful, it's a white plug which has to be pulled off the kickwell and access is difficult, also cut the white red first and see which side goes to 12v+ when you push the lock button, the other side is the motor side. from the Cobra, use violet/white and ORANGE / white fused 20amp or connect them after testing to a WHITE/ green in the same wiring section which should be 12v+ permanent.. Connect violet to motor side of lock wire and either grey/black OR yellow /black to the other end temporarily,  if the system works when you press the lock button on the door(door latched and key out of ignition), then the first one you connect is OK. You will do no damage if you conect the wrong one, the locks won't work, or take a meter and check to see which of the others the grey/black and yellow/black are commoned to. Then cut the yellow /white and do the same. Int/dome  contact is either green or GREEN/ red and boot (trunk) contact is either of above on a plug at top of fuse box. Indicators will be on plug below this. Hood switch required, this is one of the easiest cars in the world to install PROVIDED you know about the locks.

Ringo this is going to blow your mind! We had FOUR BODY STYLES for that model. 5 door saloon= UK, 5 door estate= France, 3 door hatch= Japan, coupe=USA. The Jap. and US versions are an inch narrower, have a different interior, and a DIFFERENT LOCKING SYSTEM, ie control unit in door. The only shared parts are lightbulbs, engines and transmissions, even the original stereos were different,  Pioneer for UK/France and Panasonic the rest! Incidentally at the time Rover was building the 400 series. This was a Civic with a different badge, grille engines and an ISO radio plug with a Philips on the end EXCEPT when BMW owned Rover and it got a BMW round pin plug on the radio with a Philips made BMW Business radio! This is all bloody sad, I've got to get out more and find a woman or two.

Hi,

Just trying to fit a Toad Ai606 to the same car, but am having problems with the wiring for the door locks too. The only WHITE/ yellow I have is coming out of the fuse box, into the Central Locking Control Unit, but doesn't go to the actual door locks. Is this the right wire or should I be using the yellow/red that runs alongside the white red?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Right hand kickwell on a white plug, or coming out of lock control unit, though for this location you will probably have to remove the console. Is this a 5 door see above. See above but WHITE/ red is motor lock and WHITE/ yellow is motor unlock. Don't think you have the right wires, test , both should sit on ground (neg) and red /white should go to 12v+ on lock and vice versa. Only pick-up where I said, otherwise you might get all bar driver's door or left side only. These are not trigger (control or relay activation) these are motor wires and if you don't understand, don't attempt it, at best you will blow fuses at worst more expensive damage.
