Can someone help me figure out how to:
*make an led flash red when car is locked/armed
*make an led flash green when car is unlocked/disarmed
I think I can use bi-color flashing led?
it should tie into the alarm system (viper 5701)
car is a cadillac eldorado 1980's model.

If you have a flashing 2 color LED that has 3 legs on it this will be a pretty simple task.  Is it a 12 volt LED?  You will need to look into a SPDT magnetic reed switch.  The switch will need to be mounted inside the door right next to the door lock rod.  The magnet will need to be attached to the door lock rod so that when the door is locked or unlocked the magnet trips the switch.  If this will work for you and you need a diagram just let us know.

I know that there is probably a "Ground out when armed" wire on your alarm, but if you use it to trigger a relay, the relay will be pulling 160 Milliamps of current anytime the alarm is armed.  This will run your battery down after a couple of days of being armed.

I would love a diagram...Im new to this 12volt stuff...I think if i look hard enough I can find a 12volt bi-color flashing led. My idea is to make a stainless steel plate with the words "eldorado" cut out of it, then im going to place this next to the door lock pin on the top panel of my door so that when someone comes by my car they look inside the window and see that the car is armed and locked flashing red. I want it to flash green so if I look out my window of my house and see the it will tell me its unlocked and I need to lock it. The reason I chose stainless steel is because the roof of my car on the outside is stainless steel. What do you guys think? As soon as i complete it, I will post pics. Thanks guys!!!

Does the brain have to be screwed down? I know that there is an internal vibration sensor on it, so what im wondering is...does the brain need to be held down by screws or does it still feel vibrations if it is not held down. My car has poor location spots that doesn't allow many places to mount especially places that are not metal, like the manual suggests.

That's a slick idea, but overkill - the 5701 has the 2-way remote which can tell you what the alarm status is without you actually having to look at the car.
Also the brain should NOT be screwed down...DEI's shock sensors don't work worth a damn when mounted to metal. The best place for it is zip-tied to a big wiring harness or ventilation duct.

well I know its overkill, but its more of a customization thing rather than actual usefulness. I want it for looks basically.
Now about the brain unit not being screwed down...how does the brain know when someone is trying to bump the car or break in if its not screwed down? does it still feel the vibrations, even though its not held down?

I have a 1980 cadillac eldorado, 368 motor big block.
I bought a viper 5701 alarm...
I hooked up everything (To the best of my knowledge) as best I could. The door locks work (lock and unlock), the door triggers work (the alarm goes off when you try to open).
the problem is with remote start
Ive checked all the wires twice....i can't get it to start. first the diagnostics on the remote says its the brake switch, so i made sure it worked (i hooked up the alarm wire to the car wire that turns on the brake lights). now the diagnostics on the remote just blinks the "f" (function button), it also blares a neagtive sounding alarm on the remote.
Any Ideas?

What are all these flex relay stuff? does it apply to older or newer vehicles?
i don't have the RED / white cable hooked up(+30 amp fused ignition 2/flex relay, pin87, input)
also don't have hooked up:
RED / black (30a fused accessory/starter relay input)
