94 dodge ram tach hook up

so i bought a 94 ram 1500 and it didnt have a tachometer so i went to a junk yard and picked up a used gauge cluster with tach out of a 96 ram and the tach will not work when installed ...something with the pcm but im not exactly sure

so you installed the used instrument cluster right in place of the old one and just pluged it in right? but do you know if there is even a tach wire in the plug of the instrument cluster for your truck or not? have you tested for and found it there?

You need to get information on the pinout of the cluster connector(s). They aren't necessarily the same between different trim levels/models of that truck, regardless of whether the connectors plug in.
For that info, you could use ALLDATA or Mitchell's online DIY services, or possibly a paper Chilton/Haynes manual.

chriswallace187 is absolutly correct. thats why i asked the above question. because the wire you need to make the tach work may not be there. you may have to run one.

ya i heard that the tac wire was in the bundle but it might just be disconnected or something

allright thanks for the advice ...if i have to run a wire would i have to run it to the tach or into the plug?

you would have to go to the plug at the back of the instrument panel.
