installed a remote start in a 2001 impala. the remote start goes through the sequence then gets to the part where the starter is to engage and nothing. ive had experence where even with an immobolizer the starter would still start but shut down in a couple seconds. Even left the key in the igintion (off) and tried to remote start but the same thing.  Is the issue sound like the immobolizer?   I ruled out everything else because the neutral safety, hood, brake etc would even allow it to go into sequence, and the tach wire would at least start but shut down as well.   does the key have to be turned in the ignition for the immobolizer to read the resistance or is the key just sitting there do nothing. haha thats the only logic i can think if.  im stumped

The key has to be turned for the key cylinder to read the resistance.
What did you use for a bypass unit and remote starter?
If your remote starter has a "pit stop mode" try remote starting the car with the vehicle running. Wait about 10 seconds, turn the key off and remove it. Does the car stay running? If it does, your problem is probably related to the bypass module, or the starter wire is hooked up incorrectly.

Thack, the immobilizer on Passlock cars(like that Impala) doesn't have anything to do with the key, and (unlike every other type of immobilizer)it doesn't matter where the key is during remote start testing.

haha these Gm's are out of my league.  Mad respect  for all you out there that have mastered these.  Was using a Viper 791 (i believe thats the model). Before using the bypass I usally hook up the remote start stuff first with the key in the cyclinder just to make sure i have that straight before i proceed. I was instructed that the 556UW doesnt work on this car so i was going to use a 555L (whenever i got to that point lol). Ive trouble shoot every wire on the remote start portion of the alarm which includes the satelite ribbon and relay to make sure i have power goin down every wire. (12volt red, starter yellow,ign1 pink, ign2 green, acces1 orange, and access2 brown which is relayed). with it goin through the sequence i ruled out the tach, neutral safety, ground (although ive checked these to). So i know its some wire in the car that im NOT powering to the car to get it to even start. Is the key only read the resistance when the key is turning in the start position (not run). Sorry this is alot but if someone has a minute. its greatly appreciate it.  If someone has a shop near the DC area and is doing a related car pm me so i can get a visual of these car.

so you tried to remote start the car without hooking up the bypass module??      it wont start.....

with passlock you cant "test" the system like you can with a transponder key..... you must hook up and program the passlock bypass module before you can test the install.....

We did a 2000 on Saturday and wow what a pain to do this car.  Diode isolate everything!!!!!!Parking lights, door triggers, trunk trigger.  Resistance on the lock wire and taking the whole dash apart.  We didnt have any issue other then reversing the passlock wires by mistake but as soon as I put the proper connections together it worked like a charm.  Its actually quite easy with the 555L.  You will see a black wire which is your ground reference and tag your black wirefrom the module to that.  Then you will see the yellow wire and you cut it and run it in series with the 555L.   Yellow to key side and black yellow to the other side. Make sure your module gets power, and igntion and it should work fine.

BTW,  if you remote start the car and it looks like the car is about to start and the dash lights shut off then its a BYPASS issue.  From the naked eye it looks like a remote start shut down but it is not.  I am also ruling out the fact that you hooked up your 2nd accessory.  It most likely is the passlock.

with passlock resistance can be measured with a meter. put the e-brake on then put the car in neutral. cut the yellow passlock wire and put one of your meter leads on the key side of the yellow and the other lead on the black or ORANGE / black passlock ground. this is only necessary if you are using 2 relays and a resistor. the 555L is probabaly the greatest bypass module ever and is just about bullet proof. most 96 and up GM vehicles have Passlock2. only a few dont (venture, montana, bonneville, cadillac, etc.) when doing a passlock2 vehicle i never hesitate to install the bypass right along with the remote start. once everythings hooked up start the car to program the 555L and your done. works every time. hope this helps for the future
