I have the 771xv on a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. I have had issues with the remote start since it was installed a couple years ago and now it just does not work at all.  I looked at how the installer bypassed PATS and I am certain this is where the problem is. The installer bypassed by using a third uncut key that is wrapped in wire. The two ends go back to a relay and the other part of the wire goes up and wraps around the ignition. For some reason the signal is not getting to the ignition anymore. I took the key while still keeping the wire intact and placed against the key hole and was able to use the remote start with no problems. So for some reason the signal is not strong enough going through the wire.
I would really like a better solution so I am looking at the Xpresskit XK04. I have the install guide and my question is, where on the 771xv do I connect the Brown wire pin# 1 from the XK04? Or does the 771xv have a RCS data port and I can just get the 4 PIN DATA to DATA cable and not worry about the pin 1 cable?

YOU WILL HOOK THE BROWN OF THE xk04 TO THE BLUE "STATUS" (gwr) WIRE OF THE 771... IT SHOULD HOOK UP LIKE A BREEZE...

771 did not do D2D.....
