Yesterday I had an Omega RS-4LX installed on my 2005 Chev. Tahoe so I could use the pit stop switch to leave the motor running for the dog while we were on vacation.  I drove the truck yesterday right afterwards and all was fine.  This morning when we got ready to leave again, the battery was totally drained to the point the dash lights wouldn't even glow.

Nothing seems to have been left on, and even if so all lights etc. time out on this truck.

The battery and alternator check out fine.

The tech who did the installation denies that it could be related to the installation of the switch, but I've been a tech far too long to believe in coincidences.

I noticed in the forum there are some auto techs here that apparently have experience with this unit.  Aside from him leaving an exposed wire causing a short that drained the battery, is there another programming or miswiring issue with this unit that could have most likely caused the issue?

Any help to salvage my little girl's vacation would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I am not familiar with that alarm module, but he may have the starter kill relay energized the entire time the alarm is armed.  Can you unplug the alarm brain and see if the problem still occurs?

It appears you were probably right.  Something was floating as I was hearing both the XM and the CD changer playing at the same time.  I finally just disconnected the entire unit at which point the CD changer quit playing.  I've driven around a little and the battery seems to be holding a charge now.  If it's still charged tomorrow morning perhaps we'll continue on down the road.

Thanks for the input.

If you are on the road and this is stopping you from traveling, you could either go outside and start the vehicle for a few minutes right before you go to sleep, then as soon as you wake do the same thing.  Or you could disconnect the battery.  Of course you will have no alarm, but you know it will start in the morning.

the RS-4LX is a total piece of crap.  i have installed literally hundreds of these units with absolutely nothing but problems.  what i am an idiot is telling you has nothing to do with the install.  your unit has an internal "drain" which is causing your battery to die.  simply get a new RS-4LX, or even better yet, buy something else that is actually worth a fiddlers diddle.

The installer actually placed a 1K diode straight to ground to make the pit stop function work which is the whole reason I bought the darn thing.  Then I found out that the max time for the pit stop was 15 minutes before it shuts the car down which did me no good at all.  I normally have a German Shepherd with me so I wanted it so I could leave the A/C running while I stopped to eat.

ckeeler I'm certainly inclined to agree with you about the quality of the unit.  Do you have a recommendation as to a better system?

yes i do. and im also sorry for your trouble with it. i installed so many of these things until finally i just quit using them. i wont even install them anymore either because they are installer unfriendly and so darn pickey an finickey. every time i would install one it would be a different problem, and thats even on vehicles of the same year make and model. i reallly like the DEI 562T. good little unit and if your using your RS-4LX like i think you are(off the factory keyless entry) the 562T can be used that way as well although it comes with new remotes and i recommend using them. if you just google " VALET 562T" you can find them for $70 or so.

Thanks.  That looks like a nice unit, and yes I'd use the remotes that came with it.  Do you know if it has the Pit Stop function where I can take the keys with me but the engine keeps running?  If so does it timeout after 15 minutes?

Also, I noticed you're in NM.  What city are you in?  I may want to just let you do it on my next trip up to Durango in December if you're on the way.

it does have the pit stop function, and you dont even have to do that dumb little thing with the toggle switch flipping it back and forth. you just push the button on the remote and take out the keys and lock the doors. it can be programmed to run as long as you like.

I'm in Farmington which is totaly on your way to Durango. If you are coming from Albuquerque it is just 15 miles west of Bloomfield. you wont have to backtrack the other way again though Bloomfield or Aztec either. you can just go up the LaPlata to Hesperus and then over to Durango once you are in Colorado. I would be more than happy to install it for you. I have the exact same unit to install this Saturday as well.

That's awesome.

I know right where Farmington is.  We normally go to the mall there anyway after we stop in Aztec to visit a friend of my wife's.
