98 accord ex v6 keyless entry

Hi.. newbie here have few questions i just got the car(98 accord Ex v6) as used and it came with 1 fob, however, oem keyless entry works like 50% of time (meaning, when i press lock/unlock doors locks/unlocks but sometimes, it does not lock/unlock the doors) i once suspected stuck door pin so i used w40 to lubricate but that was not the cause and now i am suspecting the control module my real question is can i add/replace aftermarket keyless entry over oem one? i found wire diagram from this site.. but not sure the exact locations of wires to tap.. what i think.. i need to tap on lock/unlock wires to control keyless entry system right? also.. where is truck release wire?.. thanks in advance..

On Hondas, an open door (or a stuck doorpin) would prevent the factory keyless from locking the car, but it would still always unlock. So, if it's not unlocking for you all the time, a doorpin is probably not the problem. Have you already tried replacing the battery in the remote? Couldn't hurt to take the entire remote apart, clean out any dust or junk in there, and clean up the contacts for the battery. And yes, you could just put an aftermarket keyless in there. It would be cheaper than trying to replace all the factory parts. The doorlock wires are in the passenger side fuse box. The trunk release wire (positive trigger, have to wire up a relay) is in a plug that's just below (clipped onto the metal bracket) of the driver's side fuse box. If you have good tools and something to test wires with (test light, multimeter), you might consider a remote starter too. Installation is a lot more complex, but a remote start/keyless unit doesn't cost that much more to buy than just keyless.

thanks for your reply. i have not tried to replace the battery in Fob YET.. might do that this weekend..^^ lock/unlock wires are in passenger side?.. i read it is at driver's side.. what do you mean by i need relay on trunk release?.. can't i just tap a wire and make trunk release to work since factory Fob has trunk release function built in? thanks again..

DX and LX have doorlock wires on the driver's side. On the EX, the driver's-door electronics communicate with the car via databus, so you'd have to run wires through the boot and into the door. The wires from the passenger door run straight into the car, and into the passenger side fuse box. It's easiest just to get them there. The factory Honda keyless system somehow already makes a high-current, positive-trigger output to open the car's trunk. It is probably built into the Honda's body-control unit, but it would be hard to be sure without a factory wiring diagram. Most aftermarket keyless-entry units only make a low-current, negative-trigger output, so that's why you need the relay. There might be some keyless entries available that have an onboard relay for this, but they'll surely cost more. AutoZone sells remote batteries, but they also have a little tester on the counter. You hold your remote up close, and the tester tells you if it's transmitting or not. That way, you can know if the problem is with the remote, or with the car.
