Hi all,

I'm installing remote starter for a 2000 camry and I connect everything except for the Tach wire.

The wiring guide said the tach wire location:

TachBlack (AC)

Or Yellow/Red(4+6 Cylinder) Ignition Driver's Shock Tower

I'd appreciate if someone let me know where's the "Ignition Driver Shock Tower" is or where exactly to look for the tach wire.

I installed the remote starter for 98 camry and the tach wire was behind the glove compartment (Pin 27 at ECM behind glove compartment) and just wondering if for a 2000 camy the tach wire would be the same location ?

Thanks all,

moonliter

Yes, the 1997-2001 Camrys are all wired the same.
But there's no need to remove the glove box. You can pop off the black panel underneath, and reach the wire from there.

Thanks all,

I'll connect the wire tonight and that's the last wire I have to install.

Hi guys, I am also trying to install a RS in my 2000 camry and can not find the tach wire. I tried to use a meter that reads tach outputs on the black wire in the grey harness(i have a V4) and also looked for this BLACK/ orange wire.
In the back of the ECM there are two(2) BLACK/ orange wires?
Did any of you have success using this wire? I really dont wanna screw up my ECM.

I found it and it's behind the glove box, it's a BLACK/ orange wire.

There's only 1 BLACK/ orange wire @ the ECM.  You can test the tach wire before connect to the Remote module.

In order to test the Tach wire, use multimeter and set it to AC with black probe connect to the chassis ground and red probe connect to the tach wire, start the engine and the meter should read about 4-6 Volts AC and 0 volt once the engine turned off.

Good luck !

Ok so its all installed after so long and I found a black wire in my ECU that had the same signal as the black wire on the engine that was supposed to be the tach wire. I did not see the same signal in the BLACK/ orange wire.
I used an oscilloscope to see the signal which was a constant amplitude and just changed frequency by increasing the RPM of the engine.
My starter keeps cranking for a little bit after the engine is started and I have tried to program my starter with the RPM signal settings.
What am I doing wrong?

For refrence the wires i used were located on the ECM on the plug at the very bottom behind the glovebox. There is a black wire with the tach signal that was too week. Off the fuel injectors, I saw that each injector had a BLACK/ red wire and then the 4 cylinders(V4) each had unique color. I am assuming the BLACK/ red was ground. The 4 other wires were BLUE,RED,WHITE,YELLOW. I just found this combination on the ECM plugs, and the were a lower gauge then the other wire and all right next to each other. They were on the same plug I tapped the black tach wire off of. This was for a 2000 Toyota Camry V4.
