Hello all.

First I am new, so I shall introduce myself, I am Robbie, 30 from Alberta. I am originally from the UK I served in the REME (Royal Mechanical and Electrical Engineers) so I have a fair idea whats going on with my vehicles.

Right to my problem and the request for help.

I own a 1998 Ford F-150 and it came with a "command start" 270ci starter system, I understand the company went out of business and finding parts is hard.  Recently my "start" button on the keyfob has stopped working, I sourced a "generic" keyfob that works with the system from Certified Radio.

They programmed the new key, I watched them and they opened the hood, depressed the button and then cycled the key in the ignition several (sorry not sure how many) times. They handed me the new keyfob and I checked the buttons by opening and closing the central locking.

NOW THE PROBLEM...before I went through this my remote starter would start the vehicle and it would run for aprox 20 mins, NOW it starts fine, makes a horrible noise and cuts out after 15 -20 seconds If I start it "manually" with the key and ignition it works, sounds, and runs fine.

I can only assume the guy at certified radio messed up a setting when getting it to reconise the new keyfob?

Do any of you have ANY idea whats a) happened and (more importantly) b) how it can be fixed?

Mosy likely the brain was reset to factory settings. The factory default setting is for 6 cylinder. If it is V8 4.6l set the tach for 2 cylinder, V8 5.4l set the tach for 1 cylinder. Just follow the programming instructions

270ic

Thank you, my only confusion is that its a 8 cylnder (4.6 V8) and you suggest setting it to 2 cylinder?

I presume we are talking about steps 6 thru 9?

What is the setting for step 1 and 2 (chart A)?

thanks again,

Ok, I went through the process in the Jpeg and strangly my unit will only accept 7 imputs?

So I open the hood, depress the hood pin, release, lights come one, quick press of hood pin, lights stay on, hit button 1 lights go off (now in learning mode..awaiting the 9 imputs?) I go through them, but after 7 imputs it will not accept anymore, it is obviously working because I can chage the flash sequence (1 or 2) on locking / unlocking the doors.

Can someone help? I am lost for ideas, amd this being a Canadain system I have no clue as to whats going on

I don't know why your unit only had 7 steps on channel 1 ? are you sure your module is 270ic ? Anyway try changing the last 4 steps as cylinder settings, I believed yours is 4.6L, so set the last 4 steps as l  l  ll  ll for 2 cylinder setting, then try remote start right away to check out.

Step 1 & 2 are for disarm, you can set it to ll  ll. as for step 3 it could be l  or  ll
