2009 nissan murano, key light

I just had an audiovox aps901 remote starter installed in my 2009 Murano with a CAN-SL2 bypass. Whenever I press the starter button to take over control, the key light comes on and does not go off. I've taken it back to the installer and they say this is normal for the Murano and there is nothing they can do. I'm wondering if putting a diode on pin 31 is critical and if they did it. Other than that i can't think of anything. Has anyone else run into this?

I'm assuming that is the auxilliary output from the remote starter unit that connects to pin 31 of the BCM? It's connected. I also posted the question on the Fortin website and they said they light staying on is normal. How did you fix it?

This must be the base model Murano, without the Intelligent Key option. (You have to put the key into the port to start the engine, right?) None of the bypass module manufacturers have found away around that, at least not yet. You could, if you want, connect the car's door pin switch to shut down the remote start every time you open the car door, then you can re-start it yourself and drive away. I always tell customers, if it's just a short trip down to the corner store, you could do takeover and just live with the light being on...........if you're about to make an hour-long trip, you could get in the car, hit the brake (shutting down the remote starter), then restart by yourself and drive away.

Thanks Chris, I'll just live with the light I guess. It is very distracting while driving so I'll just shut down and restart. I'm going to do some testing with that light. I'm guessing I can set up a relay to cut the light out with an auxilliary output from the remote starter. I'll post anything i come up with. Scott

I talked with one of the bypass manufacturers, and they tried to get the light to go out but couldn't. It must be controlled by data. If it were just a wire, they'd give you an instruction to interrupt the wire with a relay. (Which is what's already being done with the regular red security LED). They told me that the only way anything could be done, would be if the Nissan dealer's scan tool would come out with a command to shut the light off. Then, they could read the command, and copy it. But so far, they have no idea what that data command might be.
