hi all

i have question about 2th ignition and 2th acc last weake i was installing remot starter in 1998 grand am gt and it was ther befor old remote starter so i remover the old one and i found the old instalation was 1th and 2th ignition coneccted together and this instalation was mad by profisional installer form best buy in canada and the car was running good for 5 years with no problem so is it posible to do that saving time and saving relays if with no problems.

any concern or answer

word, dude it's 2nd ignition and 2nd accessory, (not 2th), and to ur question, tedmond has said it alot in the recent past, if the circuits are separate from the factory, wire them separately, even though there are no problems now eventually they may arise. that installer from best buy, couldn't have been professional, merry christmas.

Indeed, just because one know nothing installer cheated on his install doesn't mean you should repeat the same way. Tho it may work, you have to live with the fact that you didn't do it professionally also. Take the time and do it correctly...

guys guys guys its just question i didnt repead what was the installer done i did new instalation for 2nd ignition with relay

Any good modern remote starter has two ignition outputs anyway. I'm surprised you need a relay.

Yes, as you already saw from the previous installation, you can get away with jumping the ignition wires together, and the car still works.

Doesn't mean it's the right thing to do, as you're essentially modifying the factory design of the car, but yes, you can often get away with it.

You may or may not have noticed, but on most GM cars the white or green Ignition 2 wire powers up the very moment you move the key forward from the Off position, and then the pink Ignition 1 wire only comes on when the key is moved fully to Run.

So, on that Grand Am, when the two wires were spliced together, if you moved the key forward to Accessory to play the radio, the car's entire ignition system (dash warning lights, etcetera) would also come on too.

If the customer never sits in the car just to play the radio, he'd probably never notice.......but, if he does, it'll drain the battery faster, and seeing the warning lights on the dash might cause the customer to get concerned.

This question would be for tedmond. Can I use a 6A diode and power up the second ignition? Say on a 06 Envoy or Trailblazer. Use the second output as the access and run a diode to power the second ignition. I know that it only draws an amp or two. I have been using alot of relays lately and this would save on the install time.

an ignition output will usually allow max maybe 25 amps (if fused at 25) for ignition and acc. start doest really count because it triggers a factory relay. If you used a diode, that diode would work since current cant flow back the other direction, but i have never actaully used diodes to isolate an ignition or had the balls to do it :) i always use relays to isolate circuits (besides door pins). most units will have 2-3 ignition outputs so you shouldnt have to use additional relays...
