Ok so here is my problem.  I installed an Avital 4103 using a 1700G bypass into a 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD deisel.  After everything was in and the 1700G was programmed I remote started the truck and learned the virtuatach.  Started right up and everything worked fine.  I got a call the next day that when the truck is cold AND ONLY WHEN IT IS COLD, it starts runs for 10 econds and shuts down.  Once its warmed up its fine.  So I said alright virtuatach is a joke and tried voltage sensing.  Still not working.  Maybe Im brainfarting here but I am not sure what else to do.  The truck starting and then shutting down wouldn't be an ignition problem or anything like that cause then it wouldnt start at all.  So before I go digging in the engine bay for the tach in that monster harness of wires is there some obvious thing I am missing here?

Thanks for any help in advance!!!!

Mike

diesel you say? are you using  the wait to start option where you can program the length of time before it starts?

Thats gonna be it isnt it.  Going under the hood and digging thru that mess of wires.  Only shutting it down when its cold is the tach?  The only time Ive ever seen that happen with a tach was on a 2004 Taurus where the tach that directwire gave dropped out after 45 sec or so and I had to go to an injector.

well heres the thing. its a diesel. so there is no "real" tach signal because the engine has no ignition system. its a diesel. so you may have to go to the back of the instrument cluster to find the wire. its not really a tach signal its a pulse signal from either the cam position or crank position sensor.

Yeah I hear ya there.   Directwire gives a tach at the back of the cluster so I guess that is gonna have to be it.  Thanks for the help.

If anyone else has another idea please jump in!!

Tach at the cluster will be your best bet.
Also as far as the wait-to-start that shouldn't present any issue since the Duramax diesels are designed to do a quick start(i.e. no wait time while the glow plugs heat up). In any case it wouldn't explain the truck shutting down after running for 10 seconds.
