I searched for this topic but couldnt find anything.... Im about to install an alam on my navigator and I read from a few places about instead of running the power to the battery(where its visable and can be cut in a blink of an eye) run it down underneath to the started soleniod, that way the thief wouldnt be able to figure out what to do and would panic and hopefully bail out, and my my siren is tucked away and the wire wouldnt be able to get cut.
I need some opinions on this. Is it safe to run it down there? What happens if it gets wet or something? and will it be able to support the power supply? Thanks alot for your help!!!

It will be fine to run the power there. However, just like cutting the alarm's power wire, the battery cable can be cut and produce the same results. I would recommend you use a battery-backup siren instead.

Why not just use power from the ignition switch? That's where it is usually found, and it isn't visible from under the hood...

loneranger thanks for the help.but if they cut the battery cable then they cant steal the vehicle so at least this way will protect it from bein stolen and obviously if it is stolen the alarm is still gonna be working cuz they wont be able to be cut too easliy. bout the battery back up siren - im not trynna spend anymore money on my truck i already spent way too much for it being just a winter vehicle.
And mike- i never installed a remote start before so im not familiar with that. will it supply enough power for the entire alram with out making it suck too much juice and work too harde to start? and also im going to be powering more LEDS than your normal alarm, actually quite a bit of them so that wont be a problem either? is there anything i need to worry about when doing it that way? How do i do it and do you know what color wires and exactly where it is on a 98 lincoln navigator? thanks alot man

I would think any thief under your hood is not looking for the alarm's power wire. They're going straight for the siren wire. If they cut the battery cable, they're not trying steal the vehicle. They're wanting your contents. A hood lock and battery-backup siren are one of the best defenses against a thief trying to disable the alarm's ability to garner attention.

If you want to take this to it's silly extreme, alarm unit with battery back-up sirens x 2, split charging circuit second battery in trunk, tilt sensor (find me one that works reliably) to detect tow truck, film inside glass to slow down window breaking, oh and a Denver clamp.  Actually nothing of value in the car apart from a bowl of water, windows down slightly and my late psycho German Shepherd were usually sufficient.
