Hi all- trying to install a prestige remote start model APS-905 on my 2001 Tacoma- everything is wired up EXCEPT there are a couple "IF" statements in the install manual that I don't know.

1.- Parking lights- Should I connect one side of the two white wires on the remote start unit to ground OR to power?

2.- Brake switch- is this +12v switched or ground switched?

3.- The door lock/unlock. The doors will lock, but not unlock. The wire colors aren't matching up from my truck to the 12volt knowledge base. Does this need a diode?

4.- is there a way to "reset" the programming? I read all thru the manuals and can't find how to make it go back to default.

Answers:

1. It depends whether you are using 12V+ or ground parking lights. What are you using for parking light wire?

2. Brake is 12V+

3. What color are you using? Should be purple. No diodes needed.

4. You need to program it to the original parameters if you like. There's no default setting.

1-depends on what parking light you are using. If you are using a green positive light wire in the white plug at the bottom of the fuse box then the other white needs to have 12volts positive.

2- 12volts positive, the brake wire is GREEN / WHITE

3-What are you using for your lock wires? I like to get them at the bottom of the fuse box on the right side. I think they are gray and purple.

4-What do you need to program?

Hey amigos- thanks for the help- I got the parking lights working when I connected them to a full time +12.

Now I can't get it to sense tach. I've connected it per the 12volt suggestion which is the igniter on passenger wheel wire-

TACHOMETER|lt. GREEN/ black

I have followed directions exactly- that is, turn the key on, push program (valet) 3 times, (I do get the one parking light flash reply that its in programming mode), then start the truck while holding down the program(valet) button- I'm supposed to get a single flash, but it's not happening.

Couple questions-

How long does it take to sense the tach? How long should I wait?

I have an aftermarket piggyback ecu that also uses a sense tach wire- would this interfere with the remote start tach sense?

I was wearing a sweater and I static shocked this particular wire- what is the likelihood the unit is bad now?

Thanks in advance- I have to go to work tomorrow so any help is appreciated...

I am having trouble figuring out which wire to use for the tach sense at the ECM- Can anyone tell me which plug and color to try and use for the tach sense at the ecm?

Answers:

I like to wait 'til at least 10 parking light flashes, but as soon as it starts flashing the the parking lights, it has learned the tach rate. Remember to let go of the valet switch & wait until the lights go out, about 3 seconds.

The aftermarket ECU will not intefere with the tach sense. In fact, you can probably use the same wire you are using for that.

You did not damage the unit with static electricity.

You're right- I didnt damage the unit- I used a black wire with yellow stripe at the igniter instead of light GREEN/ blk. Another thing That could have happened was that I was pushing the program button too quickly. At any rate, once I switched the tach sense wire and held the button down a wink longer during pushes it took the programming and I now have remote start. Thanks all for the help!

Audiovox units are almost bullet proof - that's one of the reasons I like them.

Yeah, & programming has to be done very carefully.

I could also use some help. I am installing a 160xv remote start and am kind of going at it blind sided as I did not get an install manual with it. I was able to download a basic wire diagram. It does not mention anything about programming a tach rate. Where can I find a detailed wire diagram that states how to perform the programming? The wire diagram I downloaded does not instruct how to disable the clutch start and other important factors.

This alarm is being installed in a 2000 toyota tacoma 5 speed base model.

A wiring diagram isnt going to tell you how to program the unit. You need the manual...Without the manual I highly suggest you take the truck somewhere and have it installed. I have electrical engineering training, all the wiring diagrams possible, lots of time under the hood, and I would still rate this a 4 out of 5 difficulty. Just like there are guys that specialize in transmissions, or bodywork, or painting, installing alarms/remote starts is a specialty.
