Hello -

I am in the process of buying a 07 Grand Prix GXP.  I know that a factory remote start system was an option on these cars, but the particular car I am buying does NOT have the remote start system.  My question is as follows:  Is there an interface from GM that can be purchased/installed/etc to utilize the factory remote start in these cars?  One person I know told me that all of the Grand Prix's from those years came 'remote start ready,' but I'm not 100% sure what that means.  To me, it sounds like there is an add on module or something that just plugs into something else that allows the factory remote start to function.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

Zach

Somewhere in the car (glove box, trunk, center console) find a sticker with a bunch of three-letter codes.
If your car came with the "remote start prep package" or whatever GM calls it, it will have a certain three-letter code in there on that sticker...........sorry I don't know what the code is.
If your car is remote start ready: The dealer can order a package of two new remotes with the correct buttons on them, and they have to re-flash the car's computer with new firmware.
The factory remote start offers some advantages, such as monitoring the car's oil pressure and coolant temperature (it shuts down if it sees a problem)......... as well as automatically selecting heat or AC as necessary.
However, it has very limited range, only a 10-minute runtime, and will cost nearly as much as a long-range aftermarket system.
If your car is not remote start ready: You'll need to install an aftermarket system.
