I am trying to install the Prostart CT-5000 in my 2002 Pontiac Montana.
It was just flashing the lights over and over again but I finally got it to respond by going into and out of valet mode.
I had to do that by flipping it on and off repeatedly, it wouldn't turn off the way the manual says to do it.
I then reset the unit completely and got it to learn my remote again.
But it won't start the van.
It will turn over but then the lights just flash on and off 4 times.
I think that means it needs the tach signal.
I have tried hooking up to the purple and white wire in the harness on the passenger side top of the engine as well as the white wire in the harness on the drivers side of the radiator.
Both seem to be AC but I can't get the unit to learn the tach through either the Auto Tach programming or the conventional Tach programming procedure.
Does anybody have any tips or ideas?
Thanks
Dave

I forgot to put HELP in the subject.
Hopefully anyone with any information will look for help and find this one.
Thanks

I found an insert in the box which informed me that there is a jumper setting for "newer" vehicles that have higher tach threshholds.
I have set that but I still can't seem to get the tach learnt.
Any ideas?

If your remote starter is a newer type with a yellow loop off the back of the module, make sure that it is cut for automatic. If you haven't done this you need to reset the module and then cut it, prior to programming. The tach wire in your van is white. It can be found in the harness that runs towards the firewall on the passenger side of the motor. If you have hooked into a white wire in the harness in front of the motor, you may have the wrong one. You MUST have your ground wire for the remote starter into a clean, paint free area of the body and not into a steel brace inside the dash. These are not good grounds. Try unplugging all plugs for a few seconds. Plug in the 5 pin plug first, followed by the 6 pin main power and then the antenna. Leave the others unplugged until programming is complete.

thanks sparky I will check for that loop.

so its a white wire for the tach?

All the other information I have been able to find indicates a PURPLE / white wire in the harness running across the top of the engine on the passenger side or a big white wire running into a harness beside the radiator.

Is the white wire you are talking about in the same harness as the PURPLE / white one? And is it a big wire or a small one like the PURPLE / white.

Thanks

Do not use the violet/white wire for tach. Using it will cause engine problems as the motor won't be able to rev properly. Use the white wire in the harness going down the passenger side of the motor. It does run across the front of the motor in the large loom, but so does another white wire, which is not the tach. There is only one in the passenger side loom and it runs to the ignition module on the back of the motor.

Well it finally starts the van with the remote.

Turns out it was always getting 12V on my brake pedal for some reason. I disconnected that and I was then able to learn the tach and start the van.

I will have to figure that one out now but at least I can start the van.

(Who has two errors indicated by the same flashing of lights? It makes it tricky to troubleshoot)

I am still hooked up to the PURPLE / white wire in the loom as indicated here

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=47213&KW=montana

And it seems to work but if you say I will have problems later I guess I will tap onto the white wire instead.

There is a white wire in the same loom as the PURPLE / white one is that the one you mean?

There is loomed harness that is about 2 inches in diameter that runs along the top passenger side of the motor. The white wire is inside. There should also be a 8 gauge red battery wire in the same loom if I remember right. The brake switch wire should be white at the brake switch. If this is the one you connected to, then you need to check to see if the brake switch is defective or not adjusted correctly.
