Vehicle: 2009 Toyota Tacoma, V-6 4x4, auto trans

System: Clifford Matrix RSX3.5

I am in the midst of the install and everything is going well.  A question has arisen, partly due to skimpy info in the install manual.

From the Tacoma electrical schematics there seem to be 2 way to do the locks.  One is to tap in from the Clifford unlock and lock relays into the blue/white and grey wires in the drivers kick that gets into the circuit from the inside door switches and fires both locks at once for lock and unlock.  The other way is to tap into the violet and GREEN/ black that interface with the BECU to do progressive key unlocks (one turn of key unlocks drivers and the next gets the passengers).

If I want to keep remote progressive locks the Clifford system seems to have a wire for this (see below).  Does this just get paired with normal Clifford first pulse unlock output and both get connected to the lock relay that pulses the the violet unlock wire?  Then one press of the remote will pulse the violet once and the second press would pulse it twice?  Or does the system connected this way just send the second pulse automatically which would just open both locks at once, in which case I might just as well connect to the blue/white and greay and be done with it?

H2/1 LIGHT BLUE (-) 200mA 2nd unlock output

This wire provides a second unlock output for progressive locks. Refer to document 1041—Door Locking System
Wiring Guide for specific applications.

You could do it with the violet wire as described so long as that first key turn fires the drivers side unlock motor and does not just open the lock mechanically.  with the second pulse from the second unlock wire unlocking the rest of the doors when you tell it to.  The downside to this, Truck will probably only accept the second pulse from the alarm to unlock the other doors for a very short window of time.  In other words if you hit the second unlock outside of that window it will just open the drivers side door again and leave your passengers locked out.  Best way to do it is to use a relay on the motor wire for priority unlock.  Its better to get the lock wires from the key switch whenever possible as opposed to the door switches, this will also give you automatic domelight supervision on unlock.  If you want to get unlock with a single pulse to open all doors use the keyswitch from the passenger side door, if they still give you one there.  this will unlock everything with one turn of a key.

In the drivers kick is a white plug, it comes from the drivers door.

In this plug find a GREEN/ black..... it's a negative pulse. First pulse disarms and unlocks the drivers door only, second pulse

unlocks the remaining doors.

I am pretty sure I know how the truck works.  My main question is what exactly the Clifford wire mentioned above does.  Does it send its second pulse automatically or does it require a second key press on the remote?  I may hook the brain up to a battery on my workbench and test it.

OK, tested it on the bench and that wire does indeed give a second ground pulse with a second key press of the remote disarm button.  So I'll gang that wire with the first unlock output wire and then to the relay that pulses the GREEN/ black.  Gettin close....

I was correct to gang it with the regular first pulse wire (and connect to the GREEN/ black as you suggested) and it works great.  Unfortunately all the FM says is that a certain wire gives a second pulse not where to connect it.  I have been doing these installs over a few decades (although only a few actual installs during that time) and the documentation has gotten worse.  Probably no so bad once you are current with a mfg or system but the Matrix RSX3.5 install manual requires a good bit of reading between the lines and figuring out, i.e. not consistent about what the default programming settings are in al cases). No problem I was up for a good puzzle this weekend. And with a little help from 12v, it's done.  12v is a great website... real experts and real help.  Can't beat it.
