I have just bought a 88 mustang and it has a viper that looks to be completely installed but the light is off.Looking under the hood I found a red and black wire near the battery that was cut.followed it under the dash and it was cut there too but i cant find where from..I followed the ground and batt wires from the brain and the ground is fine and the batt goes up into the steering column and looks to be fine.checked both fuses and they're fine.so I'm trying to see what else might have been done to disable it because I bought the same alarm since I needed the remote anyway.so i have 2 of everthing

Sounds like the siren was removed from under the hood. If power and ground are good then you should be able to use the valet switch to add the new remote (or just swap brains, that would be easier).

the siren is intact and I followed the wires back to the brain

So, when you checked the fuses, you used a multimeter? I mean, you verified that the brain actually has 12 volts, and a ground.

What about an antenna? If the antenna isn't plugged in they won't work.

I have no idea what the red and black wire was if it wasn't the siren - chances are it isn't alarm related.

Never cut any wires until you know what they are for. Speaking as someone who's done just that and spent ages making good. Just a thought but the 350 should have 2 fuses, RED / white cable with 15amps and red with 5amps.

if you don't have a meter and you traced the ground of the unit to a grounding point, then cut the red wire of the alarm in half, tape off the side coming from the steering column, and connect the side from the alarm, directly to the battery's positive post and notice what happens and post back. P.S. route the wire outside the car temporarily so we can decipher if power is indeed the problem, and we can work from there. cheers.

Yes, as KP said you can use the other brain...Or go ahead and do remote programming routine....And see if unit responds(does it appear that the keyless entry is also hooked up...?) Most alarms can be put in/out of valet mode by turning ignition to the ON position and pressing valet button for about 10 seconds(some also need a door opened during same routine)...Normally when valet mode is activated the keyless entry will still work, but alarm features are disabled.(siren chirps...etc...) Probably just start with remote programming and then go from there...!(Obviously if you have a meter, you can verify power/ground from the get-go...)
