Hey all....

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I am not alarm installer at all but I want to be prepared when I go to my alarm installer in case he isnt familiar with some of my questions so any help would be appreciated.

I have a 2004 Pontiac GTO which is built in Austrailia off the Holden Monaro car so I dont know if it makes a difference or not....

1st... is the stock alarm any good or would you recommend getting an aftermarket? I've always heard aftermarket is better and have done it in my other cars but is this really true.

2nd... Could the current alarm have features added to it like tilt sensor, remote starter etc..

3rd... Could an aftermarket alarm somehow be tied into the factory one so that I could use the normal key fob(which apparently has an immobilizer in it) to disable/arm it or I would I be using the aftermarket fob... also would the dashboard security icon still work?

Sorry for all the questions but I just want to know what to expect before I go to my alarm guy...

Most ( if not all ) factory alarm systems are content theft alarms which are passive. This means you have to open a door, trunk or hood in order for it to go off. Aftermarket alarms can be set for glass breakage, tilt, impact &/or perimeter sensing along with the doors, trunk & hood.

Yes, you just have to know how to install these features into the current set up, but it's better to have these extra sensors installed to a system that is capable of having these expansion modules. Using OEM wires ( with diode isolation ) can accomplish the same thing, but your still limited to range of the OEM system.

This depends on what make, mode & year vehicle your talking about. Some vehicles you can do all of what you want, whereas some other vehicles it would be NO across the board.

Would you know if the Pontiac GTO alarm is capable of having these extra sensors added and is this something that a competent installer could do or should I ask certain questions to find out if he is capable?
