viper alarm goes off randomly

I should start out by stating that I am a woman, so be easy on me, please...  I am not a "techie"...

I have a '92 Acura Legend that I bought 3 years ago.  It had a Viper alarm installed on it when I bought it.  I don't have the manul for it, but the back of the remote shows : RPN 479V/P/C; and IDEZSDE1478.  I don't know where to look to find out the model number of the alarm that's installed.  The alarm has always worked great until the past week or so.  For some reason the remote quit starting the car.  At times the alarm would show that it was starting (exhaust on the remote would appear), but would immediately go out...  Yesterday, I tried resetting the remote (according to some directions I found in the manual for the alarm on Viper.com), by pressing the lock button on the remote several times in succession, without any luck.  The problem now is that the alarm goes off randomly while sitting in my driveway.  I've searched all over the internet to try to find out what the problem is..  The car has a valet switch (I assume all of them do)..  I keep finding reference to "channel" buttons, but don't know which button is a "channel button".

What I am trying to figure out is: 1) how do I stop the alarm from randomly going off; and 2) how do I get the alarm to remotely start the car.
