Hello,

I have an 06 Expedition with factory keyless entry and want to install a PAC TR-7 timer unit that will control (2) other relays.  According to the PAC TR-7 instructions, the timer can be tripped by either  a single (-) or (+) pulse.  From what I've read, the door locks on my truck are (-), but I'm still a little confused as to which wire at the VSM I need to tap in order to trip (i.e. start) the timer.  Any help would be appreciated.

you will want to use the door lock motor wires that way you will get the pulses when using the remote to control the door locks
lock is pink/black pin 1
unlock is pink/orange pin 8
in a gray 14 pin connector at the VSM
both positive pulses

Thanks for the reply!  Since I only want the timer to be tripped when unlocking the doors, TR-7's (+) pulse input wire would be connected to the pink/orange unlock wire at pin 8?

Really?  Is there any way to prevent that?

rtm038,
What exactly are you trying to have the timer unit do?

When I press the "unlock" button on my factory key fob, the interior lights and exterior puddle lights fade on (takes about 1.5 seconds for the bulbs to go from 'Off" to full brightness).  What I'd like to do is add my low beams (no parking lights) and reverse lights to this feature, except have them come on instantly (no fade).  I've already researched the lighting diagrams and found that by applying 12+VDC to the main low beam wire and the reverse light wire, these lights will come on (not GEM controlled).  I was planning on having the timer unit trigger a standard relay that will apply 12+VDC to the headlamp and reverse light feeds.  I know that I could tap the dome light and use that to trigger (i.e. start) the timer, which would then trigger the relays, but the downside to this is that the headlights and reverse lights would come on any time I manually turned on the interior lights, which is not something I want.    I've also thought about somehow "tricking" the GEM to energize the AutoLamps circuit when the key fob's "unlock" button was pressed, but I have yet to look over the electrical diagram for the GEM, so I don't even know if that's possible yet.

OK, that makes sense now.
There are probably 2 ways you could do this.
1. Check out the wiring from ALLDATA or somewhere, and see if there's a domelight output that appears only active with the keyless entry remote. If I remember right the domelight supervision circuit on Fords is separate from the domelight switch, although it may operate when a door is opened.
2. Since the truck has 2 stage unlocking (driver's door only on first press of "unlock", all doors on 2nd press) you could use a second relay to allow the (+) input to get to the TR7. It would be wired as follows:
85: Pink/Orange passenger unlock motor lead
86,87: RED / Orange driver's unlock motor lead
30: (+) input to TR7
When the keyless remote "unlock" is pressed the first time, the driver's unlock motor lead pulses 12v+, but the passenger's unlock motor lead stays at ground. The relay activates, and a 12v+ pulse is sent to the TR7.
On the 2nd remote press of "unlock", or when the door switch is used, both motor leads go to 12v almost simultaneously, and the relay doesn't activate. At least that's how it should happen.

Yeah, I'll look up the dome light supervision in AllData later tonight and try and figure out if it is seperate from the switch.  I was messing around with the dimmer switch last night and found a LB/PK, OR/GRN, BLK, BRN and one other wire connected to the dimmer switch.

Hey Chris.  I wired it up like you suggested and it works like a charm!  Thanks for the help
