I have a Viper 5901 alarm that I am trying to get the remote start feature to work on a 1990 Toyota Pickup.  I have tried all kinds of different wiring and cannot get it to work.  Does anyone have any experience with this alarm?  Which colors of the alarm go to the colors on the trucks wiring harness? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You have to test at the ignition loom, then read the alarm manufacturer's instructions. There's no by-pass required, it's got to be one of the easiest installs going.

I've tested all the wires on the truck itself and know what the wires do, but the alarm has 5 wires that are all supposed to hook up to the two ignition wires on the harness to power the relays in the alarm and the instructions don't really make it clear on how to hook it up. Thanks for your input though.

Green- starter wire key side

Purple- starter wire motor side

Pink- to ignitiion wire

Pink/white- ignition two

Orange- accesory wire

the rest of the thick gauge wires excluding the pink/black are connected to a good source of twelve volts!

i hooked all that up like you said and it is still saying "remote start error".  The only thing I can think of is on one wiring harness from the alarm there is a WHITE/ blue wire that says it is supposed to go to a (-) remote start/turbo timer activation input. if i dont have a turbo what does this get hooked up to?

The WHITE/ blue is not needed. What did you do with the BLACK/ white neutral safety switch wire?

Check to make sure the brake switch input isn't receiving 12v +, and the hood switch input isn't grounded.

I checked both and both are good. the brake switch is grounded until engaged and the hood pin is not grounded.
