2002 f150 prostart with idatalink problem

I just installed a prostart remote starter in my 2002 ford f150 which required a idatalink transponder bypass (34-0609)keyless. The starter seems to function properly and tries to start the truck. The truck will not start unless the key is in the ignition. Once the key is placed in the ignition the remote start works flawlessly. Thus a problem with the transponder bypass I assume. I have double checked the connections and the rx and tx are as required in the wiring guide. The idatalink seems to program fine by placing the key in the ignition and turning it on, the led goes solid green for a 2 second interval. I ran the ignition wire for the transponder bypass to the same ignition wire used for the remote start. There is no led activity when I activate the remote start. I am at a loss. Is there a setting on the remote start that needs to be enabled when using a transponder?? Any ideas crew?? Thanks in advance.

Did you hook up the ground output when running(-)  from the remote starter to the bypass?  This output turns on the bypass during remote start.

As I understand it that is a function of the data link cord that connect the two units using a rs232 port. I am sure I have missed something obvious as this is my first transponder intall.  I thought that maybe I have the igition wire from the transponder going to the wrong wire as the directions were a bit vague for this wire. I connected it to the same ignition wire as the remote starter. Thanks for the help, I will take another look at the grounding. Maybe I should avoid the datalink cord and hardwire it directly.

Have you programmed the remote starter to work with an ADS module. Check the entire install manual for the starter. Some have a programming section that is stupidly further on in the manual and can be easily missed. If the remote starter isn't programmed to work with an ADS module, this may be the problem. The other possibility is the ADS module isn't programmed to work with the data cable, but instead is programmed for a hardwire install.sparky

I with Kreg...I use idatalink stuff everday, and I just do not trust the rs232 on any brand. I just assume hardwire the stuff and get it done the first time. Also, not all brands are compatible with each other....although I'm not sure about prostart.

Thanks all, I took your suggestions and was going to hardwire rather than use the datalink. For Shoots and giggle I decided I would set the programming for the transponder to hardwired mode (using the instructions) with the datalink still connected prior to hardwiring the connection, the darn thing worked like a charm. Guess the instruction manual was totally backwards for this transponder. That being said, if it had not worked obviously the hardwire suggestion would have worked as well. My wife is will now be warm tomorrow as it is -42C today, a warm wife, a happy life (or something like that). Thanks again
