1998 Pontiac Grand Prix...
Trying to install viper 5701.. done all wires but rear defogger and trunk relay wire.
the12volt.com's diagram says to get it from the switch, but I hear a relay clicking when I push trunk release button on my fob, possibly from the keyless module.
(I don't hear click when pressing button near glove box.)
and a wire from HVAC control controls rear defog? relay?
Does anybody know if I can connect the module directly to the switch wire? (the manual says not to excess 200mA on both defogger and trunk release)
anyone?
Thanks,

Have you tested at the respective switches yet?

Thanks for replies, of course I have done the install with the help of the link you gave me.
tested the switch with multimeter, but the switch seems to be just closing the circuit.
I hear a relay clicking left bottom of steering wheel, around BCM, when I click trunk release on my fob.. maybe I can wiggle a wire into its input??
I think it'll really help if I see how the trunk release mechanism diagram looks like...

If the switch is simply closing the circuit, there must be voltage present, unless of course it's data, which i doubt of a vehicle that vintage!

Yes, you're right! 14.##v was present with engine running, and 0.00 when it's pressed. How will I know if I can supply max 200mA and still be able to open the thing without damaging my module?

Well that sounds like a negative trigger! The diagram says positive!  Connect the aux wire of your unit to the wire that goes to zero upon pressing the switch, unplug the switch from the circuit and activate the auxillary, if the trunk pops off you go! if not post back!
