Hey all, I will be installing an r/s on a 2005 toyota Echo on the weekend. just wondering about the arming and disarming of the factory alarm. Some info sheets have it as seperate wires, some have it as arms and disarms with lock and unlock and others have it just disarming with the key sense wire. Can anyone shed some light on this topic. Any help or previous experience woulg be greatly appreciated.

I have always used the lock and unlock wires in the car for arm and disarm

If you are using DEI info, typically on the Toyotas, they list the lock and unlock wire...and under arm and disarm they say arm or disarm with lock or unlock. The wires you need will not test with the rocker switch on the door. They will test by turning the key in the drivers door key cylinder. Are you positive that car even has a factory alarm?

thanks for the replies guys,I will try the lock/unlock wires first. Not positive if the car has factory alarm, however it does have factory keyless entry and the client says there is indeed a light on the dash that comes on when you lock the vehicle. I would assume that would be factory alarm.

Almost all Toyotas have the blinky light, not all have an alarm. I would be surprised if the car did, but who knows. Shut the doors, with drivers window down, hit lock on the transmitter. If the security light goes solid for 10 seconds or so, then it has an alarm. If it continues to just flash, it doesn't have an alarm. Of course, you can just arm, and wait a little bit, and open the drivers door from the interior handle. If it has alarm it will trigger, but I usually just go by the security light.

On Toyotas in general:

Supplying a steady ground to the keysense wire during remote start will disarm the alarm for remote starting.

You'll notice that if you turn the key in the exterior lock cylinder on the door, it will lock and unlock the doors.

If it has a factory-installed alarm (which I've never seen on an Echo), turning the key will also arm and disarm the alarm.

You would just tie your remote starter's lock and unlock outputs to the wires in the kick panel that correspond to the key cylinder in the door.

If it's a dealer-installed Toyota VIP add-on alarm system, it may or may not arm/disarm with the key in the door; you'll have to test to find out.

P.S. I've never heard of an Echo with a factory alarm, and not even keyless entry. There might very well be something aftermarket in there.

The Echo hasn't been produced in the U.S. in years, being replaced by the Yaris. Do they still make something called the Echo in Canada, or is this an older car?

Hey Chris, This is definately a toyota factory fob/remote with keyless entry. This is a 2005 and it looks like that was the last year the echo was made here in Canada.
