Hello,
I bought my wife an avital 4111 remote start system for Christmas and installed it in her 2006 Nissan Altima last week. Everything works, I can hold the key near the ignition and the car will start fine. I ordered the Fortin Can-SL2 to be utilized as an immobilizer bypass. I got it earlier today and some of the wiring options seem sort of redundant to what I have already done.
Basically my question is if I JUST want to use it as a bypass must I make all the door, lock, and trunk connections. Seems like I should just be able to make the CAN connections and to the security LED and the power/ground connections.

no you do not. if you just want the bypass portion, connect the light blue & light blue.black from the sl2 to pin 38 of the BCM. connect power and ground, the CAN connections, and GROUND out from the sl2 to the STATUS output from the avital. if you wire up the can wires, you now have a hood trigger which is better than the hood pin. that way witht he hood open it wont start.

I'm pretty sure that late-model Nissans don't have a factory hoopin anymore, and therefore the module won't give you any output on the hoodpin wire even if you do hook it up.
Anyway, I agree with everything else tedmond said.
You only need to connect the following to the CAN-SL2:
Constant
Ground
Ignition
CAN High
CAN Low
Security LED interrupt
ground-when-running from remote start.
Depending on how you did your original install, and if it's already tied together or not, you have a couple of options:
At the OBDII diagnostic plug under the dash, you can quickly and easily find your constant, ground, ignition, and CAN wires----you'll just have to go to the BCM for your LED interrupt.
OR:
At the BCM, in the plug where you do the LED interrupt, you can also find the CAN wires there.
Then, there's another plug at the BCM with slightly larger wires, and there's a constant, two ignitions to choose from, and a ground, all there in a row.

CAN high/low should be pin 6 and 14 at the OBD port right? Do you know which pin offhand there would be the ignition if I could do the majority of the hookup there that would be great.

CAN high - pin 6 @ obd plug

CAN low - pin 14 @ obd plug

if you are having trouble finding the wires, look for two wires that are twisted. most vehicles using CAN will have twisted pairs of wires. I have info as

Pin 4 - ground @ OBD
Pin 16 - constant 12v @ ODB
ignition at the OBD i have no info. sorry. but i say just tap into an ignition wire(BLACK/ red) *small gauge wire* at the ignition switch, the diagnostic plug and ignition wires are pretty close. hope this helps

as Chris mentioned, if you wire it up at the BCM insted, you will have access to the security led, ground, 12v and ignition all in one spot.
