Does anyone know how to control the factory alarm in a 2000 Suburban?
I installed my old Matrix 3.2 remote start/alarm in my Suburban. Once in while the factory alarm will go off. If I knew the inputs I could have it arm/disarm with my DEI instead of it randomly going off.
On that same note does anyone no the location of the unit? Is it in the stock stereo?

Most likely it's part of the BCM (Body Control Module), which is the black box directly below the steering column. There are three plugs there facing right at you if you pull the lower dash panel off.
Disarm from aftermarket remote: Easy. There's a light green wire there that will test as a ground when you turn the key in the outside of the driver's door to the unlock position. Connect the GREEN/ black "factory alarm disarm" output from your alarm here. It will disarm the factory alarm with unlock, and with remote start.
Arm from aftermarket remote: This is more difficult, but sometimes can be done.
To arm the factory alarm, you're supposed to lock the doors while at least one door is open, and then close the door, in that order.
Your unit should have a GREEN / WHITE "factory alarm rearm" wire that makes a pulse when you lock the doors with the aftermarket remote.
You could try connecting this to the blue driver's doorlatch wire, which is also at the BCM....it tests as a ground whenever the driver's door is open.
It may or may not work, depending on the timing of your alarm's outputs. I tried it with a Clifford alarm in my Cadillac, and it didn't work. I've tried it with Audiovox remote starters on Suburbans, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
What you need is to send the driver's doorpin a pulse BEFORE locking the doors....if done at the exact same time, it won't work. The door definitely needs to see the pulse before.
Or, for a simpler solution, you can just get in the habit of hitting the Lock button on the door panel on your way out of the car, then close the door, and then arm your Clifford system using its remote.

Thanks I will look for that wire soon.
I don't think I'm going to worry about using the factory alarm right now. I could make it work with simple timer but that is another project for another day.
Thanks again.
