I am looking to install a viper 5901 remote start/alarm in to my 2007 ford explorer.  I am confused as to what bypass I should get.  I went to this website and they list quite a few.  I want to make sure I can use all of the features from the alarm, and I also would like to simplify the install as much as possible as I am attempting this myself.

Thanks

use the PKFM. that's the one im using for my g/f's 07 mazda 3 (uses the same Ford PATS key system.)
it's designed for your ford/mazda (hence the FM)
here's its compatibility chart:

pkfm would most likely be the cheapest but the 5901 might have a dock for the canmax400dei less wires and you might get the tach signal with that one
the canmax400 and canmax400dei are the same thing except the dei is dock-able
another not if i have trouble programing the pkfm i download the pkf3 firmware and the usually take care of the problem

btw, the bypass only has one job to do, and that's bypass the ford PATS system so the car will remote start. it doesn't effect the other features of the alarm.
it's also an easy install with the D2D cable. 3 wires next to the ignition switch, one harness to the 5901 control box.
here's the install manual, should clear up any questions/concerns.

the PKFM is compatible right out of the box.
the canmax400 is firmware specific" and also "2nd generation XKLOADER2 required for FLASHING CANMAX400". i doubt this individual wants to buy a XKLOADER2 to flash the ford firmware onto it so it'll work with his setup.
to the OP: the canmax allows professional installers with a special firmware loader the ability to use one bypass module for a million different vehicles, saving them time, money, inventory space, etc. for a DIY job, it's unnecessarily complicated.

Thanks for the reply's! Yes I think the PKFM would be my best choice as I dont want to have to flash a firmware with an extra device.
As an installation question. (been reading alarm and pkfm manual) Do I just strip away the wire on the vehicle and attach the alarm or pkfm wires to it? Or do I actually cut the wires and have them only go to the alarm or pkfm?

Strip back the wires at the ign cylinder and SOLDER the bypass wires. This is one place you don't want wires coming loose or shorting out.

Thanks!
Looking over vehicle wiring from this site (listed below) It says requires part #775 Relay. Do I need to pick up a few of these? I just want to make sure I have everything when i attempt this install.

DOMELIGHT SUPERVISION YELLOW/GRAY (+), Requires Part #775 Relay   IN DRIVERS KICK PANEL or SJB, Connector A, Pin 8, See NOTE *1
TRUNK RELEASE BROWN (-), Requires Part #775 Relay   IN DRIVERS KICK PANEL or SJB, Connector B, Pin 29, See NOTE *1

if your interior lights come on when you open the door now, you don't need to hook up the dome supervision.
i believe part #775 is just a standard automotive relay.

I am on the fence about completing this install myself. I love doing these types of things and if I read the manuals I can probably figure it out ok. But just reading through the alarm installation manual, I wouldn't know what I need to hook up and what I don't need to hook up. My dome light does come on when I open the doors now, it also comes on (along with my outside lights) When I unlock my vehicle in the dark. (very nice when I am walking through a messy dark garage. Perhaps I am making this harder then it needs to be :)
