I recently had a Viper 5701 remote start installed in my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. I have sinced noticed that fuel guage had not worked properly. After the car has been remotely started, upon entering my car I notice that the fuel gauge is all the way on low, even when the tank is full. It takes about 10 minutes for the gauge to move up past "E" but it is still not correct. Is this an installation issue? I had the system professionally installed but did not have this problem until right after the system was installed. Any help is welcomed!

Does the gauge work correctly when starting with the key? Try disconnecting the remote starter and see if the problem goes away. Coincidence doesn't happpen that often. I would talk to the shop that installed it. Explain to them the problem. If they are a reputable shop, they will gladly recheck their install.

Oh...Coincidence seems to happen alot with aftermarket shops...Anything that breaks after has to be the aftermarket equipment...Right...? Not year,make,mileage...etc... Ive seen on some cars(fords)...not powering an accessory wire led to gas gauge not working properly...I used to have a 99 prix and the gauges, speed and gas , randomly worked!

Well I have not noticed the malfunction in the gauge when starting with the key. Is it possible that the tech tapped into the power going to the fuel gauge. I see that he has not ran any power wires through the firewall. Almost everything is under the steering column including the brain. The hood pin is hooked up to wires leading into what looks like an oxygen sensor (not MAP/MAF). Could this be causing an issue? Only the fuel gauge is affected thus far. I also want to add that while driving I notice the gauge bouncing throughout the range of "E" and "F".

So it still does it during key takeover...But you have NEVER noticed it do this with just using the key...Does it do it everytime it is remote started...? If so...remote start and see if the gauge is not working...Then shut down and start with key...Anything...? well the hoodpin wire should go to the hoodpin...Just schedule an appointment to check...Doing anything yourself could void some warranties...The most i would state is that you noticed the hood pin wire going to what seems like the oxygen sensor...If there are NO wires going through the firewall...how is the hoodpin wire appearing to be connected to an oxygen sensor...? or you meant just power wires...The strange thing is if it is doing after key-takeover...the r/s should be "off"...I dont think un-plugging the unit is going to be beneficial unless you are noticing it with the key also...

Okay, I will let the gauge issue die because I can't get it to do it consistently. My other problem is with the two way remote. I have full functionality as far as the lock/unlock, r/s, and trunk. I get an error on the two way remote every time it executes a command though. The yellow/orange LED at the top glows followed by the red function light with an annoying buzz. I cannot get the two way to work. Im trying to avoid the shop because they did not really feel confident in installing viper alarms. (they told me this afterwards).
