Hi first post. I just installed a remote start in my 1999 expedition and it worked out well now my brother has asked me to install one in his car a 2003 cavalier this is a base car no PW PL nothing but air and CC. What I am wondering is do I need a bypass? There is nothing on the key for the car and seeing as this a base I was wondering if it even has the passlock II in it. Thanks in advance.

Yes it has passlock 2. Use the xk06. I've done many of these with bare bones no power anything yet they still required a bypass.

get 2 relays and use a meter to find the resistance.  It's not going to get much cheaper than 2 relays.  Use the downloads section of this site and search passlock2.  there is  a useful diagram  if you don't want to buy a bypass.

2 relays + harness = 10 bucks.

as mentioned this is the cheapest alternative, but during very cold weather it might start because resistors might fluctuate their resistance.

you need two standard automotive relays that are 30/40 amp.

an addition 2 relay sockets and you are good to go. check downloads for passlock 2 instructions.

if you dont mind spending abit more, you can purchase data type bypasses, which will automatically learn the resistnace and you do not have to worry about it not starting.
