2001 Accord LX 4 dr V6. with an Audiovox Prestige APS787 alarm.

I got this alarm installed and everything is working except the remote start.  When I hit the start on the remote some of the dash lights flash and the control brain clicks like the relay is firing in it.  But the car never attempts to start.  I do have the tach wired up and the car will start with the key no problem. But not by remote.

Also want to note that I have the yellow wire (starter) wired to the starter side of the start wire between the fuse box and key switch. I cut in half for the start kill relay.  Also note that I checked the yellow wire and it isnt putting out any voltage (12v) to the starter wire when I press the remote.

I have the key in the ignition and turned to on so its not the bypass which I am not ready to install yet till this works.

Funny thing I notice in the manual is the way they want the relay for the start kill wired.  I think its weird.  I compared it with some of the drawings here on the site and it doesnt look right. But I looked at the manual for their other alarms and they all say the same thing so i am taking their word for it.

What is the voltage on the starter wire at the connector on the Prestige unit ? Also, is this car a manual or auto ?

Im not getting any voltage.  I was assuming I should get 12v from the starter wire at the brain unit.  I checked it with a meter and nothing.  Should this only be giving me 12v when I hit the start button correct?   The car is an auto, and this alarm will only work in auto transmission.

 Have you learned the tach on the unit before trying to remote start?     Before the unit will attempt to start, you must program the unit to learn the tach rate.

If an attempt is made to startt the vehicle without learning tach, the parking lights will flash 7 times.    Programming the tach is done as follows:

1.) With the doors unlocked, unit disarmed, thun the ignition key ot the on or run position.

2.) Press your push button program switch 3 times.

3.) Immediately turn the ignition key to the off position.

4.) Press and hold the push button switch, and at the same time, start the car using the key.  Keep holding the push button switch pressed.

5.) When the unit learns the tach, the parking lights will begin to flash

6.) release the push button switch.  The parking lights will turn on for 3 seconds  to indicate tach has been programmed.

You should now be able to staret the vehicle via the remote.

An alternative to this would be to program the 787 for voltage mode; this does not require you to learn the tach.  You may want to try this for debugging purposes, or if tach does not program properly.

There is also a diagnostic function in Bank 3.  This is a temporary mode, providing the diagnostic code via flashing the parking lights reflecting the diagnostic code.  THis happens 2 times in succession, then the unit exits diagnostics.  This may give additional insight into what is causing your problem.

As far as the start inhibit relay,  hook up should be as follows:

85 (Red) to vehicle Ignition (12volts during on/run and crank)

86 (Orange) to Remote Start Orange (Ground when armed)

The start wire between the key cylinder and the start motor is cut;

30 (WHITE/ Black) to the key cylinder side of the Start wire that was cut.

87a (Black) to the Start motor side of the start wire that was cut.  The remote start Start signal (Yellow) is also connected to this wire.

Hope this helps.

@lectricguy

You are awesome, that is exactly what I needed.  I kept reading that in the manual but it doesnt clearly define the process.  Ill give it a try tonight and update on the outcome.

suchaconsumer-

 You are not alone.  The Prestige documentation is poorly written, and  many, including myself, have been confused by it.   Good luck with your install.

@lectricguy

This was my first car alarm, and I have to say that the Prestige manual was a 3/10 in rating.  It should have a clear installation procedure and what it has is a bunch of pages of definitions but no clear order of operations.  poorly written, hopefully this will clear things up and I can move on to the next item.  a PKALL.

I've tried contacting Audiovox quite a few times over the years, to see maybe I could get myself hired with them to re-write their manuals, and I found no interest whatsoever.
I'm sure that their deplorable documentation and manuals must cause them great expenses in unnecessary tech-support calls, and good products getting mistakenly returned as defective.
suchaconsumer,
Did Lectricguy's instructions get your remote starter working?
