2010 mdx remote start

Just picked up a 2010 Advanced and I want to put a remote start in it. I will probably pick up a Viper 5901 or 5902 off ebay and install it myself. What I am trying to figure out is if the remote start will mimic the Acura one (IMHO sucks) or act like a normal one and allow you to do all the alarm functions? As for bypass interface modules the two best seem to be either the bypasskit one that fits directly into the Viper alarm or the idatalink one. Also anyone have the wire info?

I've done 2007-2009 MDX but not a 2010. I'd imagine they're the same, though. Not sure what you mean by "all the alarm functions." If you install the Viper unit, it should work just like it would in any other car....pressing the Lock button would lock the doors, arm the aftermarket alarm, and if installed correctly with the correct module, should arm the factory alarm too.........and of course pressing Unlock would disarm both alarms and unlock the doors. One thing to note is that the OEM remotes don't work with the engine running. When the remote starter is on, only the Viper will unlock the doors. As for what module to use, the ADS (idatalink.com) pieces will handle both the immobilizer key, and control the doorlocks and factory alarm. I'm not familiar with the piece that nests into the Viper brain, but do try to check if it does all functions....as far as I know it's only ADS that has one module to do everything. I think with the other brands, you need one piece to do locks, and another piece to do transponder.

Thanks for the reply. What I wanted to make sure is that didn't act like the Acura system and not allow the factory system to disarm/unlock while the engine was running. I want to be able to remote start. Disarm/unlock and put the key in and go without having to shut the engine off. From what I hear the DEI/bypasskit module mimics the Acura system and won't let you do that. http://www.bypasskit.com/product.aspx?prodid=CANMAX400DEI It would be nice if it works because it just docks in the viper brain and saves a bit of wiring.

i did one of these for a guy i knew, wiring was pretty much straight forward.

i used a fortin cansl2 and honda-sl3. finished in 3.5 hours.

there is no bypass taht docks into the DEI units, only compustar offers the blade (idatalink)

the 5901/2 is a hit and miss system. there are issues of them not working, so if you decide to buy online make sure your supplier can exchange incase of problems.

Hmm, that link you provided, if you click on Vehicle Coverage and then click on the 2010 MDX, it does specifically state that it controls doorlocks AND immobilizer bypass. Definitely find someone familiar with that piece to verify, though...those websites don't always list the correct information. Also, the site states that the piece comes pre-programmed with Chrysler firmware...not sure if that means it does only Chrysler out-of-the-box, or they're just advertising that it's included. Regardless, if you buy any bypass module (from any brand) online, only buy from a seller who will flash the module with the correct firmware for your car. If you ask the seller about firmware and he has no clue what you're talking about, you might end up having to buy a $50+ cable to flash it yourself later on. Again, my experience with the MDX is the 2007-2009 models, using Audiovox product. However, it's always been just like any other car....remote start, then unlock the door (using the aftermarket remote), insert the key, turn to the II (Run) position, step on brake, shift into gear, and drive away. I've never used the factory Honda/Acura remote starter, but I've heard, like you have, that it shuts down the engine either when you unlock or when you open the door, like Toyota. I agree with you that it's stupid, and I wouldn't want that for my car either.
