Hey All,

I have been putting in a Viper 5701 over the last couple of weekends in my work van. i have been studing everything available and have some of the wiring already connected.  just lacking the heavy gauge harness, brake, horn, tach, and hood pin wire connection.  The tach wire has me a bit lost.  The wiring charts state it is a WHITE/ pink wire at the PCM, Pin 48.  I have found the PCM, there are three large plug type connectors. The top one and the middle one each have a WHITE/ pink wire in the harness.  Does anybody know which one I should be looking at, and what is the best way to test it as a tach wire? Do I even need a tach wire since the manual says I can use  Virtual Tach or Voltage Mode?

This site have been very helpful for some past questions I have had on my 2000 Taurus and a Viper 571

Thanks in advance

To test for tach, set the meter to a/c 20volts, ground the black probe and search with the red one, the wire will fluctuate at about 1.0 or therabout, and should increase with the rev of your engine! You could try voltage or virtual tach and see if it performs as you like, but tach is always reliable, not so for the other two!

I need help,

I can not get anything out of my Viper 5701 install on my 2008 Ford E-150 van, What have I misssed.  On my H3 Heavy gauge harness I have connected the following:

H3/1      Pink to Pink/lt Green of the van ... Ignition

H3/2    RED / White.....did not use

H3/3    Orange to  Gray / YELLOW of van... Accessory

H3/4    Violet to starter side of WHITE/ Pink of van ... Starter

H3/5    Green to Key side of WHITE/ Pink of van... starter

H3/6    Red to LT GREEN/ Violet of van ... 12 volt constant

H3/7    Pink/White.....did not use

H3/8   Pink/Black....did not use

H3/9    RED / Black to Lt GREEN/ Violet of van ... 12 constant

It will Lock and unlock the doors. The parking lights will flash. No horn honk.  When I try to remote start, I get a clicking from the brain and 8 flashes from the parking lights. Also the Blue LED on the antenna stays on constant when I plugged in the harness to the brain and it goes out when I key start the van.  i know on page 83 of the install guide it says 8 flashes of the parking lights are.. "Neutral safety wire has no ground or the neutral safety is Off".. but I have checked that and even held it to ground at another spot and still the 8 flashes.

What am I missing?

Thanks for the look.

There is a switch that comes with that unit that must be plugged in and switched on for the remote start to function! It's a toggle type switch with a black pair of wires to a plug in connector on the brain! Do you have this plugged in?

im having a similar issue with my install, but one thing that was brought to my attention was that the fact that the module comes shipped in "manual transmission mode", and needs to be switched. (and make sure that the neutral safety toggle switch is on, and the neutral start wire is grounded)
i havent had time to mess with mine, as my install is also in my work vehicle (but not an econoline van)

Wow T&T Tech,

You nailed that one!  I dug that little switch out of the box, pluged it in and it started right up. Boy do I feel like a bone head.  i was kind of following the Viper 571 installed in my taurus and that little switch was not used. Should have read the instructions on page 89 of the manual where it shows that switch pluged in and must be on.

Any idea as to why the Blue LED stays on constant?  Is this something that I can adjust with my bitwriter?

Thanks again for the guidance on the toggle switch. Something soooo simple.

Rich

Just an update

The constant blue led on the antenna means the r/s is in the valet mode. Two presses on the function button and one press on the unlock button will get it out of valet mode.  Got the horn to honk on arm/disarm.  nice to have a bitwriter to scroll through the menus.

Special Big  Thanks to t&t tech for his on the money guidance for my missing the toggle switch.  And to all the technician and DIY's who have contributed to this site with tips and advice. being able to research this site made for a painless install on my work van. Thank you one and all. This site is truly a wealth of information.

Now on to my next to challanges. A viper 5301 in my kids cars, a 2005 Ford Focus and a 1998 Chevy Cavalier.  I am sure I will have a question or two.

thanks

Rich
