looking for alarm recomendation

Everything but the Radar/Proximity are normal features...Viper are still SOLID...Are you installing yourself...Code , Ultra-Start , are a couple more...The terminology/wording of DEI products are hard to understand...But hey...That's what we are here for...! Are you looking for a 1-way or 2-way...? Is range a factor...? If you give Year,Make,Model we could get even a little more specific with doorlocks(+ or - ) , etc...!M.E.C.P & First-Class

It's for a 1987 T/A GTA.  I really don't need the 2 way.  I assume this is for the car to communicate with the remote?  If the Alarm has that function then so be it.  It's not a deal maker or breaker for me.  I have an Alpine SEC-8058 in there now and it's a pice of junk.  It's the second SEC-8058 that has failed.  The first one just died and the second one failed in different sequences.  The 8058 harness is tied into door lock/unlock,  Trunk release,  Hood sensor, and parking lights as well as a normally open starter cutout that requires +12 volts to close.  It also has the radar.  It has been a terrible Alarm as far as reliability.  I would like to just tie into the existing harness if thats possible seeing as it's tied into everything.  This car is not a daily Driver.  It won't be to far from me at any time so I don't need something that can arm or disarm from half way across the country.  I will be installing myself.  I go out of my way to do an install that is damn near impossible to find.  I solder every connection.  I have no faith in the installers in my area.  I've seen there work.  Twisting wires together with electrical tape and hanging the brain from the underside of a steering colum is useless as far as I'm concerned.

I was looking at the Viper 1002 and 5002.  There is only $20.00 difference in price.  Almost seems stupid not to opt for the 5002 if Viper is the one I go with.  I had a look on there site and Viper has a trunk release solenoid thats $90.00.  My car has a factory trunk release.  This is the one that the SEC-8058 is tied into.  Can the Viper also trigger the factory release?

All the makes mentioned are solid and reliable. I've fitted lots of 1002 and 5002, no problems and yes they have a NEG. trunk release trigger (RED / White). If you already have an electric (i.e. solenoid) trunk release, then just hook your new alarm in, via relay. (I don't know how you've wired it). Also added 508d prox sensors to them, no problems, onboard shock sensor and dual-zone field effect sensor is a good combination.

I think Im going with Viper because I am most familiar with the Brand.  I was surprised no one mentioned Clifford.  that was a real big name back in the 90's.  Anyway can you guys give me a headsup as to how this fail safe starter kill works?   The one I have now on the Alpine, when it worked was quite good.  It was normally open.  It needed +12 volts from the Alarm module to close and allow a start.  If somone tampered with, removed power, or pulled the Brain, the relay would default to open and would not start.  Granted one can eventually bypass the system if they new where the relay was or took the time to mess with the steering colum but I'm sure they would have moved on by that time.

Sorry one other thing I failed to ask was regarding the Radar/Prox sensor.  How are they when it comes to outside interference?  I work at a large Airport.  The Alpine was going off all day long from all the frequencies tripping it no doubt.

In my mind Clifford was always the best BUT for the last few years they've been part of the Directed empire, the less said the better, Tedmond knows where I'm going here but I'm not saying anything publicly. The 508d SHOULDN'T suffer but then I find fluorescent lights and leaky domestic microwaves make a difference! You'll have to suck it and see. Joking aside the m/wave is operating at about 44gigs and most civilian radars are around 400Mhz, I'd be more worried about a 433Mhz remote not working at all.
